On Wednesday the developer of Teslagrad, Rain Games, secured a $150,000 grant from the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) to continue development on the sequel to Teslagrad, World to the West.

Rain Games has previously received a grant of $60,000 to develop the concept but so far not much is known about the game other than the description in the announcement (in Norwegian):

World to the West (working title) is Rain's new project, and a continuation of the story Teslagrad started. The game is presented from four unique perspectives and takes place on an entirely new continent. The story is character driven, colorful and exciting, and boasts a large gallery of both helpful and dubious types. The player must fight, talk, think and sneak past many dangers and enemies, and explore the deep jungles and snowy landscapes.

The history is divided equally between four main characters, each representing four different countries and having their own motivations and goals. Each character's story is divided into three acts, in addition to various tasks that can be found in the game environment.

World to the West has an aesthetic that attempts to provide 3D modelled objects a hand-drawn and expressive flair, using crisp graphic shapes, contrast and limited palettes to create a beautiful but clear and navigable world. It also retains Teslagrad's steampunk-inspired style.

I'm personally very excited about World to the West as I really enjoyed Teslagrad and can't wait to see what they'll do with a sequel. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.
