Valve has announced a Steam sale simply titled ”STEAMOS SALE” with interesting games that are already available and games that they claim are heading over to the platform. The list seems to include some quite big titles too!

A big part of the games featured on the sale are titles that are already on Linux, such as the Aspyr ports Borderlands 2 and Civilization V and indies like Ziggurat and Kerbal Space Program, but as much as we love those games the announcement has something even bigger. Games that apparently are getting ported but have so far been unannounced.

Torchlight II is now officially available, so go check it out. It seems they waited for this big announcement to make a real splash!

Now, before I set out to list these games, I'd like to remind all of you not to blindly buy the games mentioned. I know, I know, it seems very official and all, but we haven't heard anything from some of these titles, so be careful. We are trying to reach out to everyone we know for confirmation.
However, they have massive "Coming to SteamOS" banners on the Steam homepage, so it's extremely exciting.

Okay, now that we have the disclaimers out of the way it's time to blow your minds.

The sales page promises titles such as

- Shadow of Mordor
- Payday 2
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Saints Row IV
- Company of Heroes 2
- Magicka 2
- Total War: Rome II
- The Witcher III
- GRID Autosport
- Total War: Attila
- Evolve - (listed here: http://store.steampowered.com/universe/games/)

All will be heading to SteamOS/Linux.

Shadow of Mordor is officially confirmed, and is being ported by Feral Interactive. Feral have stated to us officially that it will release “this spring”, and they have publicly announced it on twitter now too:

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is coming to Linux this Spring. View the trailer on YouTube: https://t.co/H3mfNsn2jN pic.twitter.com/ne2rXFNEuc

— Feral Interactive (@feralgames) March 4, 2015

Payday 2 is fully official now too:
QuoteWe're also announcing that PAYDAY 2 is under development for SteamOS. It'll be released later this fall.

Saints Row IV, Company of Heroes 2, GRID Autosport and Total War™: ROME II are also official, and they have updated their store pages to say this:
Quotewill be available on SteamOS and Linux in 2015.

Magicka 2 have updated their store page availability to state this:
QuoteAvailable: May 26th, 2015 (Linux: Fall 2015)

Batman: Arkham Knight - Already has a Linux icon, possibly not a same-day release even though it has a Linux icon, as the store notes it will be released on SteamOS in the "fall" which is after the release. So, not sure why it has a Linux icon now.

The Witcher III - The only one not mentioning anything about SteamOS/Linux on their store page.

This is exactly the type of support and push we needed to see, and I'm extremely happy it's happening! I'm trying to remain coherent amongst this utter nuke of news.

Begin going nuts. Now where's my wallet? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Quoting: liamdaweAspyr already do this, try to get support on an Aspyr title when you use Mint like me for example. Their reply is they only support Ubuntu and SteamOS.
And I'm totally on board with that. To try to support every single distro out there would be absurd. They officially support SteamOS and Ubuntu, support beyond that is up to the community, I don't see a problem with it.

This is epic news. Everyone...this is just the beginning. We have till the end of the year for a plethora of other titles to be released for Linux (from Aspyr, Feral or other "in-house" studios) of titles that have not yet been announced.

Valve....smart, smart people. I'm so excited because I am counting the days till I can finally migrate to Linux 100%. Despite the benefit of Valve/SteamOS helping more people adopt Linux, i've always believed that Linux should be the one-stop OS for all. Open-source, customizable and an outlet for creative freedom for anyone around the world.

As for the Tux to SteamOS logo replacement...it doesn't matter. :) Let Valve promote the platform and, subsequently, help every other Linux platform. Concerning compatibility across multiple distros, this will ensure that there is one distro that helps set some solid standards (which is something Linux really needs to fully succeed....not just for games but other general/specific software).

Drivers will also, most likely, be sorted out by November (if not before)....well, at least AMD and NVIDIA's proprietary drivers. That's just how it is. :) But at least all sides will have full compatibility and with future titles being created with Vulkan, AMD and NVIDIA users will all be happy.

All-in-all, exciting times for Linux gamers. :)

NB: I won't be suprised if get Tekken 7, Street Fighter 5, Mortal Kombat X and Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain on Linux by November. :p

I have been reading GOL almost daily for some months now, by the way thank you for all the great information on gaming on my favorite system, and I just registered to celebrate these big news.

Sadly, after checking the store page Batman is not a same day release, in any case it's good to have it coming even if it's some months after the Windows version, I was going to buy it but will wait until it's officially released on Linux.

I am happy to see The Witcher III on the list, I had canceled my GoG.com pre-order back when the Linux community was still confused about if it was coming to Linux. Still I am holding off on my excitement until I see a little penguin sitting next to that window.

Right now I've switch back to Windows as my experience with Dying Light has gone south, I have no clue what happened but one day I started the game and instead of the barely tolerable 25+ FPS I was getting 13 FPS on averaged. I get a solid 60 FPS on Windows with everything maxed but view distance (even with view distance maxed it rarely drops below 45 FPS.)

Once I have had my fill with Dying Light (which will be very soon) I'll be wiping my notebook and once again return to Arch.

Honestly (and sadly), I wouldn't expect real drivers from AMD by november. Or ever, in fact.

Difficult very difficult maybe mortal kombat x (wb) but street fighter v (capcom), tekken 7 (namco) and metal gear (konami) dont because capcom, namco and konami dont have interest in linux for now

However could be possible see other titles from other publisher like as sega, alien isolation stay very good and other titles of them like as sonic all stars racing transformed and many others

^_^

STFU AND TAKE MY $$$

Seriously, I want them all. Every single one of them. This is just so ridiculously madly beyond belief awesome. Every title there have been discussed if we were allowed to dream of. And we get them ALL?!

The only - ONLY - ones missing now are GTA5 and DA:Inquisition. That's really the only ones left that I can recall I've ever mentioned out loud.

Due to the news from Feral I went back to check on their radar. They've updated it with the Morder symbol but that whale is still there. I wonder what it could be if they haven't announced it today?
