Darksiders was supposed to come out for Linux a long time ago and never happened. The developers haven't forgotten about it, but it seems the issues are proving difficult to fix and they have been busy.
'Darksiders Warmastered Edition' just launched and the inevitable happened; someone posted on their Steam forum asking about Linux.
From their wording, honestly, it sounds rather unlikely that it will ever come (link):
MegalomaniacNGWe tried to pick up work on the Linux port but we couldnt fix the remaining issues it had. Instead we focused on Warmastered Edition. Maybe Warmastered Edition will get a Linux port one day. I am sorry for this but I cant tell you anything better right now.
Part of the problem is that the original person in charge of the port left the developer, so it got put further down their list.
That's one title I'm putting firmly in my 'forget me' pile, sadly.
Thanks Khudsa for posting it in our forum.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Sad that it didn't happen, but I have to appreciate the honest comments by the dev. They have to make hard decisions and I respect that. Maybe someday it will come to us.

Quoting: m2mg2I think it is pretty clear they never even worked on it. All progress stopped once the new guy took over, he probably does not know Linux at all so they just started working on Windows projects exclusively.
They were, but indeed it was before the linux developer left, which is sad. There's also the encrypted Linux betas on Steam, that's why SteamDB list it as having a sign of Linux Support. As long as they still have the code, they might pick it up someday eventually, but yeah, the current focus will be at Warmastered Edition and not the regular one for sure.

Quoting: DamonLinuxPLNever buy games when Linux port is not releasing YET. Vote wallet, buy only games with Linux support.
A basic extension of the 'Never pre-order' rule, as if the port is not out yet your are basically doing just that.
Also if a company with no experience / prior Linux releases announces Linux support, you may as well get comfy with the thought that the port wont happen.
Most studios simply do not understand that unless planned cross platform from the start it's never going to work well - be it down to missing middle-ware, poor coding conventions or bad/missing build & test environments.

Too bad, so sad. I was really looking forward having Darksiders on Linux. I played it through on Windows, and it's a really great game. The gameplay is neat, with nice graphics and some cool puzzles to solve. But as with some other titles, when you don't hear anything about the port for a long long time, it'll probably never come. (*cough* giana sisters *cough*)
If only Leszek Godlewski would have finished the port before leaving. But as he said, he is done with porting. Probably he wasn't pleased about all the questions about when the port is finally finished. Iirc he even removed all tweets about it, so nobody asks him anymore. Maybe that's even our fault.
I read the "Maybe Warmastered Edition will get a Linux port one day." as the same. More unlikely than likely. The Warmastered Edition probably won't have less issues than the original version. Of course I hope we'll get a port, but I don't count on it.

Quoting: operaSad news, but nice to have some honest communication.
Well, that's always the question isn't it. I remember when "Amplitude Studios" went out and said they decided to scrap the Linux version of their title because they reasoned they could get more cash by focusing on DLC for windows instead. Really crappy, but unquestionably honest.
I don't know, maybe I'm just too suspicious by nature, but whenever a linux version gets scrapped because of unexplained "issues", then I start to wonder...

Really unfortunate - this was one of the AAA games that I really, really did look forward to. It looks right up my alley.
If I had to choose I'd even go for the two Darksiders rather than Witcher 3.

Quoting: neowiz73worse case, they could just wine wrap it. I'd be fine with that. this would be a good candidate for it. along with Darksiders II.
If you are thinking of having a Wine-wrapped Warmastered Edition, that won't happen because Wine barely supports DX11.

Well... keep waiting... maybe... this was one of the titles I was very interested to play, meanwhile we have very interesting titles out there :P

Sad, but expected by now. This goes to the scrapped pile. Played in in Windows some, it was good.
If Dragon's Dogma comes to Linux, I'll forget all about sad story with Darksiders.
