To mark 10 years this indie game changes price every hour to London's temperature

As far as publicity stunts and indie dev anniversary celebrations go, this is both clever and quite amusing. The puzzle game A Good Snowman Is Hard To Build from Alan Hazelden / Draknek & Friends will change price every hour on itch.io. Not on other stores though, as only itch supports doing this.

What Hazelden called "pay what the temperature is", the price is being set based on the current temperature in London (UK). The developer is pulling the data from OpenWeather, and then changing the price to match on the itch.io page. As of the last reading the temperature was 9.9°C and so it's priced at $9.99.

Some bits of the FAQ are also quite funny:

Why are you doing this?

Introducing this as a permanent price model is our really stupid way of celebrating the game's 10 year anniversary.

What if the temperature is below 0°C?

Ha ha, nice try. The game will be free.

I use Fahrenheit though!

Okay, if you insist. 9.9°C is 49.82°F, so you can set the payment amount to $49.82 in the checkout process.

I use Kelvin though!

We greatly appreciate your generosity! 9.9°C is 283.05°K, so you can set the payment amount to $283.05 in the checkout process.

You don't get a Steam key though, as they don't want them to end up being "resold on dodgy second-hand marketplaces that we don't want to support".

Great game too, according to our previous contributor flesk who said it's "without a doubt the most charming puzzle game I have ever played".

This is actually quite hilarious. Nice to see that there are still game developers who appreciate good fun.

This is a genuinely good (and challenging) puzzle game, and so is the bigger and fancier "A Monster's Expedition" from the same dev. Easily worth a few °C.

Been in a few bundles though, I think.

My first question upon reading that headline was "In what unit system?", so good on 'em for including an FAQ!

That's fun! I was wondering what would happen below zero as well :)

At least, you have a relatively accurate way to predict what the price will be in the future, and plan your purchase accordingly.

283.05°K
they should lose the "°" symbol and use a non breaking space according to SI.
