The process is a little rocky since you will need to obtain a copy of the game from somewhere like GOG.com (hooray I feel okay linking to them again!) and use wine to get the data from the installer.

Desura provides ready to use Linux installations and you can choose between FSOpen and the port made by Ryan Gordon.

And if I remember rightly, some extra mods like the FreeSpace Port are also included.

Quoting: HadBabitsI'm sure you could with a quick search ;) I've only been using Linux for over a year, and while there is quite a bit to learn there are also plenty of resources. Here's a great place to start http://linuxcommand.org/ :D

Wait! don't make it look harder than it is, "right click -> extract" is sufficient to install a tarfile for a closed-source product in most cases.

For open source programs, forget the tar and use the package manager. My Linux amateur users are able to survive without the command line nowadays.

Quoting: gbudnySometimes, you have to try to run it several times. I think it is a known bug in this game.

This fixes all the segfaults and sound problems in my openSUSE:
./swapsoundlibs.sh system

If things get worse, you can undo the changes with:
./swapsoundlibs.sh game

You are very welcome Liam. I though it will be more polite to register before posting this time, so here I am. I've been commenting as the grumpy Edgar in the past because it isn't easy to remember all those passwords... yes I'm getting old.

I found this game the last year, played the demo and loved it, but their website was down and I couldn't find any place to buy. With some research I found the developers and they sent me a free copy of the game, they are amazing!

The game is difficult to learn but easy to master, just forget all you know about driving cars because the physics are very different. What I do is release the accelerator far from the curves, rotate the H-Craft while it slides and accelerate again when the curve begins. Better with joypad/gamepad.

As I read in another review, the IA is unforgiving and very hard to overtake, but as the tracks are short and you can instantly restart, kamikaze is a viable (and fun) strategy.
