Quoting: Liam DaweFor the Linux share to rise, there needs to be a lot more happening outside of our own control and Valve's. Alone, they're just not enough to push it. We need more bigger hardware vendors to offer it, advertise it and so on.
As far as I can see, most Linux gamers today are people who were already using (or at least were familiar with) Linux. There are quite a few who use Linux for work or/and at home, but game on consoles, or don't really game at all. Most of the growth is form this pool.

Windows gamers is a much larger group, but also considerably harder to tap into.

Humble Bundle introducing regional pricing for bundles - also running a Valentines sale

Quoting: mao_dze_dunAlso love how they just cram all of the EU in there, even though half of the countries don't even use Euro. Whenever I see an e-store I'm using offer "regional pricing", it always feels like they're being sarcastic :).

EU stands for European Union, although it is often used as an abbreviation of Europe, which is not the same thing. There are a few countries in Europe that are not members of the EU. Although most EU member countries have their currency tied to Euro, so the exchange rate is always the same, even if they do not use Euro directly.

Of course lumping e.g. Romania and Denmark in the same region is just mean, because of how different salaries are in these countries.

Quoting: m-svoThey have recently asked to re-test several games, those I got the notifications for are Dragon Age Origins and TES IV: Oblivion.

They who? Valve? Where did you see these notifications?

Quoting: TheRiddickNot surprised, the whole system is rigged to throw numbers at windows stat data, not at all surprised linux slips past due to system-statistical errors.
It just defaults to Windows, unless very specific criteria is met. Bought on the Android app, bought a key on a store, got it in a bundle, did not manage to play within the first two weeks, all Windows sales.

In the end it doesn't matter, because Mac users are counted the same way. When there are enough of us, all these statistical errors and inaccuracies will no longer play any significant role.

Must be among the lucky ones, but it worked just fine when I played it a while ago. But improvements are always welcome. Especially since it is a fun little game

QuoteSimplified Chinese the current most popular language on Steam.
I wonder how is the current status of Linux usage in the Asian market (Japan, China and South Korea). I think the Chinese one would be bigger if they had PUBG and LoL avaliable natively.
There is big potential for Linux in China. Due to the conflict between Trump and Huawei, the Chinese are threatening to drop Windows in all of the government offices. Also WPS Office, that is the standard office suite for at least some government branches, already supports Linux (and is really good actually). But until something more concrete happens, I don't think we will see a lot of Chinese Linux users.

Of course all of this is just conjecture. :S:

Quoting: LinasIn Denmark I see people using Linux on their laptops from time to time. MacBooks are very popular. But I don't think I have ever seen a Chromebook, either in use, or in a shop. Not anywhere in Northern or Eastern Europe for that matter.
Statcounter seems to disagree:

I said that I have never seen one, and that is still true. :P

Steam reportedly coming to Chrome OS - Linux gaming across even more devices

Quoting: KohlyKohlThe biggest reason that Chrome OS is so popular is the US is because they replaced iPads in schools.
I'd be all for that happening. Here Apple has quite a grip on schools. And the worst thing is that the iPads are not even used that much for school work. And kids break them all the time.
