Hatred, the controversial shooter now has a Linux beta

Wouldn't it be hilarious if, thanks to this beta, the Linux version ended up as less buggy than the Windows one?

Quoteblack and white look with some colors like police sirens and fire are nice touch though.

From everything I've seen of the game, that's the one thing they really did right.

QuoteCan we please not brand this game as controversial? I don't think we should be sending the developers the hint that we're (in any way related) to feminists.

Why shouldn't we call it controversial? Being controversial is the whole point of the game and all its marketing. If it wasn't controversial, nobody would have bought it to start with. As it is, an awful lot of the sales were driven by a desire to "stick it to the SJW's", most of whom had already basically shrugged their shoulders and walked away once it released and turned out to be a hot mess. The suckers still buy it though, thinking it'll piss somebody off.

Seriously, why would someone release this game at all if they were scared of being called "controversial"?

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna), an atmospheric puzzle platformer looks like it's coming to Linux

I've been wanting to play this for SO LONG! I never thought they'd actually do a port, and I'm so happy to see it coming.

Albion Online shows some impressive statistics for the MMO

Hmm. Lack of world flavour, which quests help communicate when done decently, is a pretty big negative for me. I'm still interested, but my enthusiasm just dropped a lot.

I gotta say, your articles about this game have me really excited to give it a try on release, and see how far I can go as a F2P player.

When I play oldschool WoW (WotLK era), I'm all about the quests and general flavour of the world. How does Albion stack up in that regard?

The Thea: The Awakening devs are apparently eager to move to move to 5.3. Smart move for a quality game.

Hatred, the controversial shooter is now being tested for a Linux port

From the performance I've seen in videos, they didn't even test it for Windows. Why bother for Linux?

QuoteBrutality in games is like in the movies, and somehow, there's no one protests.

A lot of people did go "WTF, this shouldn't be on Steam, this is awful" back when it was about to come out, but once they saw how it actually played (buggy, repetitive, overwrought, basically The Room in video game form) they shrugged and said "Fool me once" and moved on.

OTOH, people who hate that first group opened their wallets happily and gave good reviews independent of quality. That's what I call the "fool me always" demographic.

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians, a surprisingly great dungeon crawler
6 December 2015 at 5:23 pm UTC

QuoteThere's a fair few people comparing it to Grimrock which isn't surprising, as it's one of the newer games in the dungeon crawler genre, but I've been enjoying this game a lot more.

I'd personally compare it to Grimrock because the environments look almost exactly like Grimrock in quite a few places. Hell, that one bit at 0:46 where they press a hidden switch could easily be lifted directly from the earlier game. Other environments and how the camera moves look so similar that I thought from the start that this was just a mod of the original Grimrock with a few tweaks in how the party is handled.

Quoting: Mountain ManIs it randomized? That's the one thing I didn't like about Legend of Grimrock because it really limited the replay value.

There are some pretty good fan mods out there, so that's a plus.

Linux is holding exactly where we thought it would in the Steam Hardware Survey

I'm not expecting a huge jump in market share but a change that couldn't get overwhelmed by a rounding error would be nice. Has there been any change since the advent of Steam Machines that goes beyond normal month-to-month fluctuations?
