JSAUX will be doing more colours for their Steam Deck backplate

The purple one has a strong Game Boy Colour vibe to it! That said, I agree - I think that blue would look a bit nicer on the Steam Deck.

Also, I notice that the big ugly logo from the first one is absent here, and it looks so much better as a result.

dbrand bait Nintendo with their new SwitchDeck skin for Steam Deck

Heheheh, gotta admit, after having seen the same rumourmongers pop up time and time and time again claiming that there'd be a "Switch Pro" Real Soon Now ever since before the Switch launched in 2017, only for some of them to recently pop up again and basically claim "It really did exist, honest, but it conveniently got cancelled!", this one made me chuckle.

The Steam Deck clearly delivers on the promise that the Switch holds but falls short of in some areas, so those who believed the rumours would probably be well-served by a Deck, with or without this skin. Good on dbrand for having a laugh with it!

QuoteSome people come to me from time to time saying that they discovered that it was possible to game on Linux because they were using Heroic on Windows and saw that there was a Linux version. So this made them experiment and even migrate to Linux because of that and I think this is pretty cool.
This is cool - and it's a good example of gaming helping to drive Linux adoption, too.

. . . unlike now, of course . . .
Well, that's my point - we've looped back around to the same old thing. I just wonder if the same old thing will work in gaming this time around!

Quoting: slaapliedje100% Though it was also at a time where game consoles went to the side, and kids were crafty and asked their parents for a computer 'because then we can do more serious stuff!' but ended up playing games on them! Then the NES came along and made people dumb again.
I'm reminded of Hey Hey 16K!

In the UK it was different to that for quite a long time, though here it was ultimately the Sega consoles that had that effect. Here's a snapshot of the ELSPA market-share figures from May of 1992, for example - it stayed similar to this for at least another couple of years, as far as I'm aware.

This wasn't surprising (though from experience it often appears that way to those from North America and Japan, whose markets were wildly different), since the cost of living was so high back then and the Commodore 64 in particular offered competitively-priced well-powered hardware and extremely affordable games, generally in the £2 to £5 range, and available even at your local newsagents, not dissimilar to the sorts of pricing we see on Steam today.

I'm preaching to the choir here, of course - I'm sure that you and most folks here already know this. All of this to say that I'm seeing a huge parallel between the C64's value-proposition for the UK games market back then, to what the Steam Deck offers now under similar economic circumstances - if Valve, or someone else using SteamOS, leverages this angle in their marketing somehow, it might help to make Linux-based PC-gaming a go-to choice for budget-conscious families and individuals.

I'm gonna show my age a bit now, but back in the days of the 8-bit home-micros in the UK, it was always gaming that helped to drive the adoption of home-computers and related technologies. I don't see why it should be any different here.

Quoting: Marlockit doesn't even matter too much if the scrapped assets are horrible or better than the final ones, this can only increase interest in those aging games and increase their lifespan...
Indeed, there's even a website called The Cutting Room Floor, which is all about exactly this. This sort of thing also serves to preserve parts of gaming culture that would otherwise be lost or unknown.

I can easily see myself using this on my future Steam Deck - hopefully this project will continue to grow and offer more options.

I can only speak for my kids and their friends, but all of their gaming is on Switch, Xbox, Playstation, and Steam. None of the younger kids (10 and younger) we see have phones that are capable of gaming, but everyone has a console at home and/or their parents' PC.
This is the case with my younger relatives, too. And they'll also sometimes hijack my laptop when they visit.
