Steam Winter Sale 2022 is live now, plus vote for the Steam Awards

Quoting: PenglingA number of games from my wishlist are in the sale, but for now, due to the possibility of receiving a Steam gift-card over the Christmas period, I'll probably just grab Race the Sun, which is currently 90% off!
In the end, I also picked up Ape Out (which I grabbed on Fanatical as it was slightly cheaper there), Beat Invaders, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Frog Detective 2: The Case of the Invisible Wizard, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. Those should keep me going for a while!

EDIT: I ended up going back for Bubble Bobble 4 Friends, as well.

Intel working on new Xe graphics driver for Linux

My GPD Win Max 2021 (running Xubuntu) has Intel Iris Xe graphics, and the current driver for this sees the graphics fail to wake from sleep when the rest of the computer does, which means I simply can't use sleep/wake on that machine (it's not a big deal since it boots so quickly, but it's a little inconvenient). Hopefully this new driver will address that!

Quoting: denyasisI kinda totally forgot about those. Probably due to the other award show they were involved in, lol.
At least with this, we don't have to watch 3.5 hours of Netflix actors, feather-duster dresses, "music" performances, and not a whole lot about video games.

Gorgeous 3D adventure platformer New Super Lucky's Tale is now Steam Deck Verified

New Super Lucky's Tale was one of my favourite games that I played on Linux in 2022 (shameless plug ), so it's really great to see it get Deck Verified status - hopefully that will translate into more well-deserved attention for a great game! Good chilled-out fun no matter how old you are, and a really good fit for a handheld.

QuoteThis unmounts the removable drive, it does not physically eject it
... well duh.

Did they really have to write this?
Quoting: Liam DaweYou've seen the Steam forums right? People in general are not particularly smart :P
Sorry you guys, but expecting Valve to include software-controlled spring-loaded ports for physically ejecting drives by force is clearly totally logical - it's you two who are nuts.

Whisker Squadron: Survivor blends Vampire Survivors with a Star Fox-like shooter
21 December 2022 at 10:43 pm UTC

Yee - this is exactly my sort of thing! I hadn't even heard about the full version of Whisker Squadron (though I do remember Race the Sun drawing some comparisons to Star Fox way back when), so thanks for the heads-up on both, here!

Quoting: elmapulex zodiac looks like an better option, or both, if you are desperately in need to play an new starfox'esque game , since nintendo take forever to launch an new one and there isnt much competition in that market/niche.
Ex-Zodiac is fab too (one of my games of 2022, even though it's unfortunately not yet finished), but this Survivors-esque title doesn't look to be the same sort of thing, so I reckon there's plenty of room for both.

My game of the year 2022 is the Steam Deck
20 December 2022 at 11:59 pm UTC Likes: 2

My game of the year was actually released in 2021 and ended on December 1st of this year - it was the incredibly short-lived free-to-play side-game Super Bomberman R Online (not to be confused with Super Bomberman R, which was a 64-player battle-royale Bomberman game. Luckily, it turned out to have been a feature-test for upcoming full paid sequel Super Bomberman R 2, so its features will be rolled into that next year.

They never kicked anyone out of R Online for using Proton, either, which makes me hopeful that we'll see R 2 end up Steam Deck Verified with no problems.

The free and open source Worms-like 'Hedgewars' is now on Steam

But the burning question is, how do people go about updating it on Mint?!

Seriously, though, nice to see this one get some more exposure by way of coming to Steam.

Valve just gave away another bunch of Steam Decks so check your email

You're missing an aging Al Pacino on stage opening the show by saying that he doesn't play video games, and then giving an award to someone who (though talented and absolutely deserving) openly admitted that they might not have auditioned if they'd known it was for a video game.
