Zelda: Majora's Mask gets a PC port with a new open source tool for Nintendo 64 games

Oh this is super-cool. Shame they had to go with Majora's Mask as an example, though (excellent game though it is!) - that's going to be like a red rag to a bull, as far as Nintendo is concerned!

... Now I'm wondering how well the excellent and criminally-overlooked Bomberman 64: The Second Attack! (whose story-director was Naoki Yoshida/"Yoshi-P", who's at Square-Enix these days) would fare...

EA want to put adverts in your video games to squeeze you for every penny

Quoting: mallogFor a Linux site, I'm surprised no-one has mentioned this. The adverts will probably be delivered through a specific domain, which can be blocked in your firewall.
Knowing EA, they'll probably have locally-stored ads ready to go for offline use, too, hahaha!

This open source project runs RPG Maker MV/MZ games on Linux

Even though RPGs simply aren't my thing, and my favourite RPG Maker game (2004's Yume Nikki ) is both not an RPG at all and is way too old for this project, this is really cool to see - it's always good to see a broadening of the Linux-gaming landscape.

Quoting: WoodlandorDoes it have bombs or something? 🤔
Yes, but that's entirely beside the point! And, y'know, there aren't any Bomberman games in this Fest.

Spelunky (Proton) is in this Fest for £2.74. If you don't already have it, now's a really good time to pick it up for peanuts! (Honestly, this game is so endlessly replayable, I've never fully understood why it got a sequel...)

Quoting: Augustus-OctavianAww I wish there was more official support from companies than from random distros that may or may not exist tomorrow.
Asus doesn't even properly support repairing the ROG Ally hardware.

Square Enix shifting from "quantity to quality" and be more multi-platform

Quoting: dindonDragon Quest is about 88M units sold worldwide ($5B revenue) whereas Final Fantasy sits around 180M ($19B). Dragon Quest is popular in Japan but it's nowhere near the level of Final Fantasy in term of sales or revenue overall.
Though it's worth noting that Square-Enix will often fail to release Dragon Quest titles outside of Japan. It's a little bit odd, really, considering that Square had to merge with Enix to save themselves after the early-2000s Final Fantasy movie nearly bankrupted them! You'd think that they'd want to have a broader slate of titles globally in order to avoid putting all their eggs in that one basket again.

It is, but it belongs to Capcom. I'll throw Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Romancing SaGa, The World Ends With You, and all their sequels into the list, plus once-famous one-offs like The Bouncer and Rad Racer, to replace that one.

You're totally right about Dragon Quest, by the way!

QuoteInteresting that we have Square Enix just generally looking to expand across more platforms and slow down a little for quality, while EA just want to put adverts in your games.
And don't forget how Microsoft has closed a bunch of award-winning studios and now thinks that focussing on mobile telephones and bringing back Candy Crush Saga will save the Xbox brand.
