What we want to see from the possible SteamPal handheld from Valve

Quoting: FauconNoirAnd what if SteamPal is actually a portable VR headset with the possibility to play "traditional" games in "cinema" mode ?

With a Van Gogh APU? They would have pulled nothing short of a miracle considering the limited hardware capacity, but who knows?

Quoting: HoolyWith Thunderbolt coming to AMD boards, I could even imagine them selling a docking station with an AMD GPU in it.
From what I've heard, GPU hot-plugging might work better with Wayland compared to X11.

This is quite what I hope for too. It would effectively become the laptop killer I've been waiting for.

"Gaming on the go", in the bus/train to the job, with the 8", 720p screen (from what is reported) and comfortable 1080p or 4K gaming on my TV with the optional docking station (Doubtfull they would be able to sell the whole package for 399$).

If that's the deal, it's an instabuy for me. My wallet is ready.

What have you been tapping play on recently? Let us know

On Steam Linux:
Did a complete run of the whole Metro Series games to try to get the good endings (Failed in 2033 and Last Light again even though I followed a wiki. Go figure...)

There is always Witcher 3 that I keep close by, in case...

I'm in the process of building a 3D printed Racing Wheel support for the Steam Controller to play Dirt 4:

Really looking forward to that thing...

Stadia:
Played Marvel's Avengers and completed a Rage 2 run that I started quite a while back and now I'm playing in alternance Grid & Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.

Hints appear of Valve making a handheld Steam "SteamPal" Neptune console

Quoting: slaapliedjeThis brings up a question, has anyone been able to get eGPUs to work in Linux? Last time I tried with mine, it didn't work all that well.

Same here. Tried with a thunderbolt egpu and it was meh... Unstable, worked, reboot, doesn't work anymore, wash & repeat... Annoying!

Who knows, since it's a dedicated hardware, Valve might find some SteamPal specific means (custom port layout/controller/firmware) of achieving this without all the troubles that we, desktop users, have. Just a guess.

Had I known it would be that easy, I would have filed for a pattent on that same thing, back in 2006, when the Wii came out... That's the first thing I tought about when I witnessed the gyroscope enabled racing games with the wii remote... Tought of a controller with back paddles for shifting gears... Damn! I'm under by $4M, now, I guess...

Quoting: GuestDo you paladins really think Valve owns no patents?

Does it changes my stance regarding "paytents"? Let me think... Nope!

Quoting: MohandevirWhat is specified in the pattent?

It's specifically having paddles on the back of a standard controller. The patent is here, for those that are interested.

Yep... Had a look... Just moving my answer here:

Ironburg Inventions didn't create back buttons, they just adapted something that was already used elsewhere. The pattent is giving way to much importance to the container instead of the content. Oh well... Pattents...

What is specified in the pattent? Because back buttons can be quite a large concept, imo... Even the back paddles of a Logitech G25/G27/G29 (example) may be considered back buttons, to some level, and it's been in use way before 2014. But I'm no pattent specialist, so...
