You might want to change the head-line as "Free and Open Source" usually refers to FOSS, and this isn't FOSS at all. Even the assets are under a restrictive NC license.
I disagree. Code under a FOSS license is still FOSS. This also applies to the assets, we say happily things like OpenMW and OpenRA are FOSS but they also need proprietary assets. One part not being FOSS doesn’t mean the part that is FOSS suddenly isn’t.

You can argue about the assets, but the code is to 90% non-FOSS as it uses the Unity3D engine. There is no way this code can be used without it, so the game really does not qualify as FOSS.

I guess this is something Valve is at least partially funding for their rumoured Deckard standalone VR headset.

Awesome, then I need to try it again in VR. Previously the VR experience was very much lacking resulting in me never seriously trying this game.

Now the same needs to be done for Subnautica, which is also a very much subpar VR experience.

This is really starting to sound like a slot machine... I wonder if that is intentional?

I wonder if they still plan to make the long rumoured AM4 5600 X3D. Would be sure nice for a cost efficient upgrade on AM4 systems.

Quoting: JuliusHow about finally releasing the game? I am an original Kickstarter funder and still haven't played any of it as they keep milking the early access BS and add various gimmicks that normally would be in post release patches I think.

I backed it too, and decided not to wait and just play the current version in Wine. It works OK and the main campaign is interesting enough. The story is not complete though, so keep that in mind.

So you bought it a second time? Or you paid extra for the questionable honour of being an alpha tester?

I wouldn't mind playing it through Proton, but as I backed a tier that promised to give a key for the final game, I simply can't do that as I didn't receive the key yet.

Yes, there can be all sorts of arguments about what it means to back a kickstarter and so on, but they clearly prioritized acquiring new customers over delivering the product to customers that already paid for it. This might make sense from a business perspective, but it is a really bad practise and I will not support them again in the future because of that.

Maybe worth mentioning that it works in Proton and if you want to play with friends on Windows you have to install the Windows version with Proton.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyDo you know if the game is still "unfinished" in any playability sort of sense? How much does it matter what they call it? If it's more "finished" than many games given full release, is it a problem that they prefer to call it "early access" still?

I don't know, as I am still waiting for my key from the Kickstarter campaign 4 years ago. The reviews make it sound like it is pretty complete, but it has been in "early access" for 2.5 years now and it looks like it will be finally released sometimes Q1 2023 if I am lucky.

I am mainly annoyed that they keep postponing the official release date, while pushing out updates that are clearly not essential parts of the the game and are meant to attract new customers as one would expect from post release updates.
