I see, guess I got mixed up with the preferences tab or whatever, the reason I had noticed as I was looking for the option to double the GUI size when changing res to 1440p.
Thanks for the explanation.
Did epic open up 2004 ? UT and UT2004 are my personal favourite. Many, Many hours lost bavk in the day with those.
That made me chuckle

Have to ask though, Why is the advanced tab no longer available on the Linux version
We added that advanced tab just so we could tell players where their ini files are. The Windows client doesn't have this tab since you can edit the entire ini in-game using the preferences command. This command opens a window that shows you a property tree. The underlying code was never ported to Linux or Mac because it contains thousands of lines of Win32 MFC code. I have begun porting the preferences window to wxWidgets so we can add this feature to the other clients, but I do not expect to finish the port any time soon.

No it don't, not on a hardware level.

Quoting: MohandevirQuoting: ShmerlQuoting: The_AquabatIf you make such a bold claim like twice performance, you have to prove it.
I knew from the start that 2x improvement claim was just marketing. It simply sounded unrealistic.
Quoting: The_AquabatSo I expect Big Navi to score some wins at least on compute tasks, and maybe some games optimized for AMD, and it is definitely not even close to "dead on arrival"
Regarding AMD, they gave projected improvements in their RDNA 2 slides and I don't expect it to be far off:
That's for performance per watt. What's not known yet, is how powerful their highest end card will be using that improvement and whatever amount of compute units they'll put in it. It could be quite a leap from 5700XT.
Question:
The RX 5600 xt supports Radeon Rays (AMD raytracing)... What's the state of it, on Linux?
No it don't, not on a hardware level.

Well thats not good I admit but you did have day one support so the reply to Breeze is true in which he/she is talking complete bullshit !
Where is Nvidias day one support with there OSS driver? Oh, wait....

Quoting: BreezeQuoting: pete910Just to note while I agree on the late oss driver support on distros like *buntu there was nothing stopping you from using AMD's prop driver.
I ordered the 5700XT on launch day and used the AMD proprietary driver on 18.04 LTS, there was an update a few weeks after to 18.04 LTS and the driver no longer worked.

Quoting: Alm888Hey, AMD! Did you see that? That's how it is done! A driver on a day-1!
I hope you can reproduce this "magic" of delivering on day-1 next time when I update my PC's GPU, as I really want to try your products out. Do not worry, AMD, you have plenty of time to practice yet.

Quoting: BreezeIf 6800XT is anything like the 5700XT launch:
- October 28th announcement of release November 30th, reference only.
- February 1st AIB cards released.
- March 1st, I can build the kernel and Mesa from git branches to have a somewhat stable experience.
- October 2021 first Ubuntu release that works reliably, April release didn't have everything.
I have bought a few Nvidia cards and they worked with proprietary drivers the week of release with zero issues. I have a 5700XT, the question for me is:
Is there a game that will be released before October 2021 that I will want 2x performance of 5700XT? If there is, I will buy a Nvidia RTX 3080, if not I'll buy a 6800XT most likely.
Games that may make me want to upgrade:
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Vampire the Masquerades: Bloodlines 2 (not looking good)
- Starfield
- New Elder scrolls game
- Avowed

Not really, PC games are getting/Surpassed in some cases the cost of console games, I agree with missing the steam sales but there's also plenty of places to by S/H games for consoles. Swings and roundabouts on either side tbh.

Unfortunately I called it some time ago, I knew this was going to be the the case.
It's with a sad heart that the way It's going in general with Linux gaming and the humongous £££ increase in graphics cards I am seriously thinking PS5. I'll keep my Linux PC purely for work related tasks .
Don't forget that console games are -massively- more expensive than PC games, and in contrast to Steam, aren't constantly on massive sales, either. The math usually works in favor of PC gaming, in the long run. Also, you don't need super-high performance GPUs for 99.9% of all games out there. That's what the industry wants to make you think to make you blow more dough on new hardware than really needed.
