Impressive space combat sim 'ASTROKILL' has its first major update in a year

My pointer isn't working on the Linux build so I can't select anything. The game seems to work perfectly in Proton, however.

I'm a big fan of this title and have played both campaigns all the way through. I love the engine but feel some modifications have made things a bit off. I'd like better momentum directionality, and for left and right thrusters to have more effect. Also, it feels like the enemy is EMP bombing me like mad, so much so I really can't do much in some missions. The dev has been on and off responsive on Discord, I'll reach out there...

Quoting: doomiebabyWell... community size in BO could be a blocker there...
Good point. When BO did their upgrade that blew up everyone's character configs, I think that really hurt player numbers, which had been robust beforehand...

Quoting: Elvanex-Very easy to hop in and out of without tons of life dedication, which is a rare and valuable thing in PVP these days...
Very true, one of the few games out there with matches that have a real skill gradient of people playing. I feel there's still a few too many matches where one or two super-players just OWN everyone else.

Oh why or why can't we have a PVP title that matches people together based on stats and skill?

Quoting: Linuxpunk...Also... Angels Fall First (via proton)...
There is another!! :) I'm very excited for them to get DX11 up and working, as the game has never been a terrific performer FPS-wise and has never been a great Wine performer. With an i7 and M1070 on medium graphics, I get about 25-45 FPS with 1440p wide, and it can dip into the high teens with the most intense action. That's about the lowest of any game I play. Almost everything else proton or native is in the 50's-60's and up on ultra. Once they've got DX11 going, we should be able to use DXVK with it, and if that gives us even 10-15 FPS more, it would make gameplay so much better. I love that game so much. It's my second highest hrs on Steam after Rocket League... Great community too on Discord.

The Regulars:
* Rocket League (best online game ever?)
* Angels Fall First (Proton, can't wait until it gets DX11 and DXVK comes into play)
* Ballistic Overkill
* 2005 Star Wars Battlefront 2 (Proton, looking to try some more mods)

Ones GOL Articles Inspired Me to Play:
* Allspace
* Disputed Space
* Ravenfield (the AI is perhaps still maybe TOO good)
* The Mean Greens

Ones I keep floating into and out of
* Insurgency (the crazy good skills of online players keeps me from playing this more)
* Clone Drone in the Danger Zone (Proton)
* Hypergate (half way through, looking forward to finishing, has been more fun than I anticipated)
* Interstellar Marines (when there's anyone else around)

On My List to Play Soon
* Battlefield 4 (Proton, want to see why people think they're so good)
* Mass Effect (Proton, never played one of these, feel I need to fill in that gap)
* Star Trek Armada III (Proton, mod for Sins of a Solar Empire, which I've never played either)
* X-Plane 11 (it's been too long since I've spent serious time with a flight sim)

Possible Purchase Soon:
* Dusk (is it really that good?)
* Block 'Hood (my kids love building games)

Ravenfield, the single-player FPS with large-scale battles has a new release out

> no more conga lines

Hehe, they did used to do that, didn't they. I always thought the AI was a challenge before, but hopefully they fixed some of the ridiculous stuff (like someone sniping you from far away with a handgun).

A quick run over some details from the recent ProtonDB data

Quoting: ziabiceAm I the only one that still uses the official issue trackerto report things? It's very well maintained, they (Valve employees) reply in minutes, and sometimes you can talk with Codeweavers developers.
The first two or three things I put there or contributed to went unanswered or addressed for some time (one of them still without reply since Proton roll-out) so I just gave up. I'm glad to hear your experience was different, so maybe I'll go back to that.

Regarding reporting slowing down over the months, I've already reported my whole non-native library! I've just run out of titles. I wonder what percentage of the Windows library has reports so far...

Space shooter 'Disputed Space' arrives on Linux offering up intense 3D action
2 February 2019 at 3:14 am UTC

Back on topic here, Disputed Space is about $1.99, is a mindless "blow up the enemy ships" shooter, and I absolutely love it. It really is Overload in Space, which is my favorite control scheme married to my favorite genre. If you like either one of these types of games, for $1.99 and to support a Linux native title, it's a no brainer.

Quoting: tmtvlI did say "Space Sim", not "Space Shooter", didn't I? Don't get me wrong, I like Tachyon: The Fringe as much as the next guy, but there's a difference between "Shoot people in space" and "space sim". Although that is a big generalisation, so I should probably change it to "Space Sandbox". Also I don't count MMO's because there you just get trollololed into space dust.

Also also, lol X Rebirth, the black sheep of the series.
Well, via Wine, there's the entire Evochron series that's playable that fits your definition. X4 looks to be the best such game in quite a long, long time...

Sunless Skies is officially out and it's truly an awesome experience
1 February 2019 at 4:32 pm UTC

Quoting: JuliusAnyone got Sunless Seas actually running? On my Solus Linux system it always crashes on startup.
As much as I like, respect, and support Solus, it was this kind of random gaming and app incompatibility that caused me to end my use of it and go to Arch or Ubuntu based distros where everything just worked for me. Sorry :(.
