Talking point: what have you been playing recently?
27 June 2021 at 3:53 pm UTC Likes: 3

I recently ended Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Stadia. I think I will be stopping there. It's not for me. Too many cut-scenes. Retired The Division 2, Jupiter Hell, Northgard and Starward Rogue (all things unlocked). Time to find some more arcade action games.

Right now with the summer here and family visiting we've been playing a lot of local MP games once again which is my preferred way to game.

Galaxy Champions TV - itch.io

One of the best games from the most recent sale. It's so good. Playing this on a projector with some wireless gamepads is the way.

Streets of Rage 4 - GOG

Playing this one with my wife again and trying to get through boss rush mode with some of the SOR1 characters.

Splody - itch.io

PVE and PVP Bomberman clone done right!

Online I've been playing the following with friends and family

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World™ - Complete Edition - Stadia

We also play this one locally but throughout the week I've been going online to play with my kids who are huge fans of the comic and movie.

PAC-MAN™ Mega Tunnel Battle - Stadia

This is mostly just me but I've got a few ppl that picked it up recently and so that's been fun.

Quoting: MohandevirTo me, and anybody who got a family (with gamers), it's worth gold.

Very true. I have a lot family members that game and we are on each other's family plan so the amount of games we have access too is enormous. I still reserving my purchasing power towards ONLINE ONLY MP games when it comes to Stadia. Games like Tom Clancy's The Division 2, Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle and Super Bomberman R Online.

At home my wife and I play Stadia mostly from our desktop and HTPC but I've been gaming more and more from my phone with an attached gamepad.

The demo is great. I'm looking forward to when this goes released on itch.io.

Hellpoint is being given away by GOG for 48 hours during their Summer Sale

Quoting: scaineIf you mean the gods, then I skipped one of them, but of the two I fought, one was pretty straightforward, the other I couldn't beat because he did too much radiation damage... but then I came back in a space suit and it was a total breeze!

I think the game lets you potentially massively "underbalance" your stats. I was a heavy armour guy, so I had taken many, many points in Load... something you just wouldn't do if you wore light armour. But if you try to fight the radiation god without that space suit, I genuinely wonder how you could survive. But without tonnes of points in Load, if you wear the space suit, you basically can't move.

Other than that minor piece of potentially unbalanced gameplay, it's great though. I love the potential customisations. And some of the weapons are just so satisfying (although again, you'll tend to specialise massively around just one of them, sadly).

I meant Sentient Boss and Prodigal Spawn. All of other fights are decent this one was more difficult for my initial builds.

Quoting: scaineI had a lot of fun with this. Great atmosphere and just the right level of "difficult, but do-able". Unlike when I played Dark Souls 3 and absolutely hated how unforgiving it is. Some of Hellpoints fights are hard, sure, but nothing like as bad as that.

I actually finished this and enjoyed most of my 35 hours doing so.

The final fight the with final 'True' bosses can be brutal.

What have you been tapping play on recently? Let us know

Tom Clancy's The Division 2 - Stadia

This game has been a gem for my crew. We have clan. We are all lvl 30 and currently on World Tier 5. We don't plan on getting any DLC but for now everyone seems to be happy with this one. Been playing it on my main gaming rig running Ubuntu Mate 20.04, Gazelle 17 Pro laptop and my android all via gamepad it' great.

Shadowgate - GOG

Ended this one and got all of the endings. I loved this game. The music. The art. The voice acting. The hint system. The setting and atmosphere was excellent. I also like how the game is very short so you're left with a feeling of reading a short story. I need more games like this.

Tonight We Riot - itch.io/GOG

My wife and I ended this one awhile back but we struggle to get all gold on it. Finally did it recently. A friend of mine stopped by and we introduced it to her and she loved it. Had a good time going through the game with her. I think we made her a GOG customer too.

Starward Rogue - Direct from Devs

Recently ended this one for the first time and it's fucking great. It's going to be added to my must install list when building new rigs.

Quoting: Arcadius-8606Nice! These days I prefer to get together to play RPGs and not have to lug thousands of dollars of equipment around. Or in the case of most of my friends, they don't even have rigs that can game decently enough anyhow. Though sadly... I do have enough old hardware that if we did a LAN party with some older games, I own enough for myself that people wouldn't have to bring their own :P Cheap thinkpads on ebay... kind of a curse!

I had a 8 man LAN setup with Dell Optiplex desktops from 2012 to 2016 that I got for free from my job as they were upgrading. Those machines ran games from Doom (1993) to UT2k4, Xonotic, L4D2, Killing Floor with no issue. I also had arcade cabs + custom Raspberry Pi cabs. I sold it all. Moved to a small home. My most recent LAN meet was during this past weekend and we all played on a mix of laptops (their own) and local MP games on my HTPCs.

My family stayed in the low tier of computer gaming and don't go over $400 for a new rig or $800 for a new laptop. That said I'm great at getting deals and finding physical freebies.

We do play some board games and miniature games like - Cards Against Humanity, DS9 Fluxx, Zombies!!!, Heroclix, Marvel/DC/Valiant Deckbuilder and Hero's Quest along with card games like Poker, Spades, Uno and the like.
