I picked up Super Star Path and Costume Quest on itch.io. Super Star Path is already a lunch time game with my co-workers.

???
Quoting: Alm888What exactly is so "morally unacceptable" in this particular deal? The fact that they do not provide DRM-free or Linux versions for all games in the bundle?

Simply put they lie to the video gaming community for their personal gain.

Quoting: Alm888The games in the bundle are for Linux and DRM-free. Yet, you will not "support" (in the form of purchasing?) them… Well, maybe you just don't like them… But that has nothing to do with IGN or Humble Inc.… Oh, wait!

These games are available elsewhere, If I wanted them I would get them on the platforms I prefer.

Quoting: Alm888So… this is not about personal taste in games but IGN per se.

Correct. I like ScreenCheat and picked it up via GOG awhile back.

Quoting: Alm888I'll try to not forget to inform you on such a development, but no promises! OK? :D

I'm good either way.

Quoting: Alm888That is your right and I am in no position to scold you on that. But, please, try to be aware of the fact that your actions are motivated by personal feelings (about past IGN's actions) and not rational thoughts about current event.

The people in that one issue I cited above, still work there so I don't think it's totally irrational.

Quoting: Alm888P.S. I am also not above this: I will not give any money to "Larian Studios" and most probably will not buy "Divinity: Original Sin" despite its availability on Linux due to their actions (which I took as a personal insult) regarding the release of Linux version.

Not and RPG player, so I don't know what went on with that but sounds like you're doing the right thing.

Quoting: Alm888P.P.S. GOG… Armello… Does it sound any bells??? Like, this story? Yet, despite all of this GOG is totally OK to get DRM-FREE games, unlike despicable "Humble IGN"…

I just read that, they gave people their money back...What's the issue? I would agree if they had F'ed the community and kept the cash but they did not.

Lots of their games do not have the current version. 'Nuclear Throne' is one of them. It's an older version missing all of the updates STEAM has. The IndieBox and Itch.io version is also the same old version from the DRM-FREE release. How much of that is on the dev or platform depends on how transparent their dealings are to us the consumer. My game taste keep in the local MP and SP arena so I have no idea what online gamers are dealing with til I read it here or on places that I visit.

Quoting: Alm888So, it is actually not about DRM but personal hatred and vengeance…

Maybe but how so from your POV? If a company does business in a way that I am morally against and I do not want to support them is this now considered hatred and vengeance?

About your other question, I've been supporting Linux native game releases since the 90's. From UT99 forward, if the game supports Linux and I like the game, then I will probably support it. If the game supports Linux and I like it and it's DRM-FREE then I will definitely support it.

Let me know when IGN comes out and says that they WILL support Linux and DRM-FREE gaming with some clear goals and milestones with some kind of checks/balances in place and I will give them another look.

Til then I will continue to support Linux Gaming as I see fit.

I hear you but I strongly believe that IGN deserves none of my money. While the deal is good, if I wanted those games in a DRM-FREE format I will look for them on itch.io and/or GOG.

*Update*

If you remove your HB account, they still provide you permanent links to your games.

Quoting: kibblesHowever, I do not plan on deleting my account either. I do plan on canceling my Humble Monthly when it comes up for renewal, I will be looking for sales on other sites more... but I have so much through HB... (I have bought a ton of games since learning about them with the HiB#2...) I plan to use my account to keep downloading... to use my steam keys. I don't plan on buying more from them...but I plan to use the resources they have to support the items that I have bought from them already. Heck, if they have a 2 day free game special... I plan to get it... I just don't plan on giving them any more money.

I hear you. I am saying GB to over 100+ games in addition to some great comics but I backed up the games and books and just don't want anything to do with IGN at all.

Also this is the modern age, you don't have to give them money to support something anymore.

Quoting: kibblesI have given HB a fair amount of sales and I gave it to them on principle. Now that IGN is in the mix I will stop buying from them altogether for the same reasons.

Why does it matter to you who sits in the board, if they still operate like before? (genuine question, not meant rhetorical)

For me, I never liked the way IGN did business. I've already asked for HB to delete my account. No response from them, yet. I like to put my money where people do business the way I want them to.

Going to key my eye on them but I am ready to have my account deleted if they do something I'm not down with.

What have you been playing and what do you think?

The Original Strife Veteran Edition - I started playing this game as a kid @ a friends house but never got to end it. I made it as far as the tavern and began to bust caps in everyone and then got my ass handed to me. Now, I am on the alien ship. This game is excellent. This one has reignited my love of single player FPS games.

The King of Fighters 2002 - 1 v 1 mode - Been playing this game a lot during my lunch breaks with co-workers and @ home with the family. In 1 v 1 mode the game works like traditional fighting games where you only get 1 character instead of a team of 3. This is a great way to explore new characters you've never tried before. Right now I am trying to master Takuma.

Space Pirates and Zombies - With the release of part 2, I decided to dust this game out of my Humble Bundle backlog (I am down to 4 games that need to be played and ended from my backlog). It put a few hours in and I am having some fun with it but I am undecided on if I like this game @ this time. It's engaging but I've not had any 'smiling' moments as is said in my home when one is playing a game with glee in their heart! I can see the moment coming, though.
