Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTCould someone who has the chance to please post Windows vs Linux benchmarks after it has been released?

I recently made some benchmarks on Windows, including multi-GPU but I can't find the results right now :S:

Edit: Found em :) Will post when I get the chance to do Linux benchies.

Quoting: MblackwellI am hopeful the game is functional on 16.04 and the 17.10 requirement is mostly just for the sake of Mesa. Because, my machine is currently a production box and I can't afford to upgrade at the moment (and when I do of course it will be to 18.04... which btw I hope to god there's a way to get a vanilla gnome session instead of Ubuntu's extensions and such. If I wanted a Unity style interface I never would have switched to Ubuntu GNOME in the first place... but now I'm off track).

I bet it works just like 17.10, which means you can just 'sudo apt install gnome-session' to get vanilla GNOME. The customized one they use as default is called 'ubuntu-session' I think, and you can freely remove it if you want. If you do not make a fresh install, but instead upgrade from Ubuntu-GNOME, then 'gnome-session' will probably be your default. At least it was for me when I came from Ubuntu-GNOME 17.04 to Ubuntu 17.10. In this case you don't have to do anything.

Really ? It just happens to work on OS X's GL drivers too, but it's our bug ? Riiiight....

I wish the smooth LOD transitions could be disabled as a workaround. They weren't always in the game, but when they added them they were always enabled. Can't they be disabled by some easy hack?

Feral Interactive have released an open source tool that’ll help get the most performance out of Linux games

I guess this won't do much for us AMD-users since they don't usually default to "powersave"? When I used Ubuntu 17.10 I think it defaulted to "ondemand" with my Ryzen 1700X, and now I'm on Debian Sid which seems to default to "performance".

Edit: I just realized the latter could be because I run a custom kernel.

It's called "generation loss" and it's still a very relevant problem even in this age of digital technology, for example in lossy compression. :)

Port radar suggests LiS:BtS were supposed to be released first, so I'm curious if a release of that is imminent, or maybe the port radar was inaccurate. Anyway, really looking forward to RotTR.

Quoting: GuestSo I would actually argue that at its core, the most fundamentally important aspect of GNU/Linux is the FOSS nature of it all, and that has allowed rapid innovation, development, and adoption.

Yeah! We need to highlight the strengths of the platform. Falling into traps like platform exclusivity only undermines those efforts.

Quoting: elbuglione"some trying to justify exclusives and lock-in as a valid methodology"
Sadly... is valid, because is working!

It has no place in FOSS-philosophy, even when there's a proprietary store front in middle. We have to be better than that. Only a greedy "triple AAA" video games executive could propose something like that. I sometimes see consumers of consoles applauding exclusives and it's turning me completely insane. Why would a consumer ever think it benefits them? I want gaming on Linux to be successful too, but copying the market strategy of popular consoles is the worst way to go. Instead, we need to make people aware of the benefits of FOSS and why they should be afraid of the big corporations shoving proprietary software down their throats, locking them in their ecosystem and turning the consumer into products. People who are aware starts looking for alternatives and those alternatives already exist but the awareness does not.

You might want to not look in the comment section of the article if you find yourself easily triggered. Gotta say, I find a lot of the comments there extremely disturbing/disgusting/ignorant.
