Life is Strange: Before the Storm is officially coming to Linux, port from Feral Interactive

Quoting: KimyriellePlaying this game will feel odd to me, as I played Life is Strange, and thus already know what's going to happen to the characters in the end.

You are supposed to have played the original first. This game is written with that in mind and makes a lot of references to the original which you would miss out on if you hadn't played it.

I would never recommend anyone to play this before having played the original.

Quoting: legluondunetThe first episode works well with Wine since several release.
I will buy this one too, instantbuy for me.

Really? Last time I tried the characters were invisible which makes it completely unplayable. Glancing at winehq-appdb it seems this issue is still present.

I don't think the technical details are too important for this game as long as it's stable and bug free. It's not very demanding so it should run on a potato regardless. That's a good thing. I prefer good games before fancy tech demos. The game is pretty in it's own way. It captures the art style of the original perfectly while also improving a lot on the animations which adds a lot to the characters. The animations in the original game looks very robotic once you've experienced LiS:BtS.

Quoting: DrMcCoySure. But I wish the endings weren't such a Bury-Your-Gays downer, tbh.

Seen several articles on https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/ which calls the game out for this, but I'm not sure I agree.
Spoiler, click me
Out of four potentially queer characters only one is buried for sure, while another one is up to player choice.
Both of these are not the fault of Before the Storm, but the original game. There's no way Before the Storm could have changed the outcome for these characters. Also, the game is about loss and tragedy which I think is a big part of what makes it so relatable. Would it be as emotionally powerful if the developers shyed away from these themes? I doubt it. It will be interesting to see where LiS2 takes it. I don't want to see them overdo it.

Edit: Added spoiler tags

Awesome. Time for a fourth play-through then. Is that healthy? Gosh, I love these games so much.

I highly recommend this. Just keep in mind that it's not about the ending, it's about the journey.

Has the flickering foliage LOD transition texture issue thingy been fixed yet?

Can you hear that? It's the Steam sales train and it's arrived, also Steam Wishlist revamp

Quoting: BrisseFinally I've acquired Hollow Knight which I just played for almost 2 hours and it seems pretty cool, and Divinity: Original Sin EE which I tried to launch but it just crashes instead. Bedtime now so I'll have to investigate that tomorrow, but worst case scenario I'd just get a refund but I really would like to get it working.

Anyone seen this error before?

This game is great. Don't give up too fast, but it's some kind of broken when you use mesa drivers. Read here...

Compiling the "LD_PRELOAD shim" works for me.

Many thanks to you both! I got it working now and you probably saved me hours of troubleshooting :)

It's time to bug Feral Interactive about future port requests once again

Quoting: pageroundDCS World, please!

I just read earlier today that they are looking at Vulkan. First I thought, why, it's performing perfectly well after they implemented their new engine running on d3d11. Hmmm.... LINUX!? Then I realized it's probably to improve the VR experience, but one could only hope they are looking at us as well.

Haven't played with it in a few years though. I really liked it but at some point I got too fed up by the draconic DRM, increasingly large amount of smaller DLC's splitting the game to pieces, the never ending simultaneous dual branches (1.5|2.0), the promises of awesome modules which never came until years or even decades after their initial expectations. Ended up selling my flight sim hardware and a lot of DCS modules. Back then you could sell them second hand but they don't allow that now so I'm glad I jumped ship when I did actually.

Posted this on Phoronix yesterday. Just going to drop it here as well just in case Feral isn't lurking on Phoronix.

QuotePrey (2017) - Played it using Wine which worked pretty good. One of my favourite games last year.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm - Installed Windows (blasphemy, I know) on an old junk HDD and played this during the recent holiday season. It doesn't yet work properly in Wine. The first LiS is already ported by Feral and it's published by seemingly port-friendly Square Enix so it seems like a good candidate.

Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice - Another really good game I played on my temporary Windows install during the holidays. Doesn't work on Wine since it's full of graphical glitches. It's an indie-game running on the Unreal-engine and I suspect the devs might be open to the idea of a port.

Rise of the Tomb Raider - I assume this is the one on their port radar. Instabuy if and when it comes to Linux.

Assetto Corsa - Spent a lot of time with this racing sim before I ditched Windows, and I miss it. Yes, we have a lot of racing games on Linux already, but not in this particular subgenre. The developer is independent but they made a deal with a third party to make the console ports happen. Not sure what their attitude towards Linux is.

There's probably a ton more games I should mention but those are the ones that came to mind right now. I won't even bother mentioning certain Bethesda-published shooters that others already mentioned because Bethesda is Bethesda and thus it's very unlikely we'll see those ports despite all the open source tech used to develop those games.
