Indivisble!

Splendid JRPG/Fighting/Platformer-mix from the creators of Skull Girls. The dialog and character design alone is worth the time and the gameplay and music aint too shabby either.

Sounds very exciting!

There are pros to the CK2 system of dice rolls for life-style traits, such as "playing what you get", but there have been many a time I wished to role-play my character a particular way and having to read the script files to ensure a good probability to get a certain trait.

This also sounds like it will make a lot more strategical flexibility than the CK2 system, just "unified" a bunch of land? Go down the Overseer tree. Preparing for expansion? Go down Avarice to build your war chest or if the realm is peaceful Architect some new tax base.

Quoting: MayeulCIdea (sorry, I always have one when these stats pop up): group the desktop environment and GPU stats by session type:

Show which DE is used more on Wayland, which on X11. Show if AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL users are more likely to use X11 or Wayland (plotting these graphs again for Wayland would be enough to infer the rest, but there could be some value in trying to provide an easier view, but that would be more complex).
Did some brainstorming, worked out a little SQL magic and it appears quite easy to do with the way I sorted the data into the database. When the next generation happens, Wayland and x11 will each have a chart to show what desktops are in use on them.

Thanks, going to be interesting to see! ^_^

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

Hmm.. Recently Hearts of Iron: IV have been back in rotation, especially the fabulous "Old World Blues" mod, and I am reasonably hyped for the new expansion coming on Tuesday.

Other than that I've really enjoyed finally getting to play Zelda: Wind Waker through the Dolphin emulator. My TV did not really like the Game Cube version for some reason and made a flickering mess for that game, so never got to play it. Works surprisingly great, and with an HD texture mod it looks gorgeous!

Finally, the Bethesda sale on GOG got me Wolfenstein: The New Order & The Old Blood so I've also been nasty to Nazis, but I felt that was justified, though I did feel a bit bad after spotting a soldier had put up a drawing his young child made him. Poor kid.

Not amazing news for sure, but a big plus for the headline, it made me laugh more than it probably should have.

Guess it is time to read up on it in order to advice friends and acquaintances who are overly susceptible to scare-mongering.

Paradox to trial a subscription system to help with DLC overload for Europa Universalis IV

For anyone on the fence about buying eu4; the Humble Bundle currently going contains everything that is "essential" and basically everything else that adds mechanics and features. The big thing lacking is the cosmetic stuff, which is really just there to throw some extra money at the developers. Currently going for about €17 for the full package.

The upcoming DLC (and accompanying free patch) is going to absolutely huge and might well land on that list as well eventually, which might be good to know. Then it will cool down for quite a while.

If anyone wonders about the essentials, it differs a bit on play-style and as such opinions are a bit varied but it generally boils down to:

  • Art of War

  • Common Sense

  • Dharma

  • Wealth of Nations

Some of these "essential" features also trickle down into the base game so these get less and less important as time goes on.

Quoting: NezchanAs mentioned earlier, they are notably litigious, suing Chrysler for an ad campaign whose tagline was "Choose Your Adventure" (noting they didn't even use the whole phrase) and Netflix over an interactive Black Mirror film.
That would push them more to the scummy side of things. Like I said, they do need to protect their rights, and policing your trademark is part of that. How you choose to go about doing that adventure is another thing.

I see what you did there :D

Quoting: CFWhitmanTo be honest, this sounds like a fairly legitimate claim to me. The "Choose Your Own Adventure" series of books was pretty popular in the eighties, and everyone knew that the phrase referred to a very specific series of books. That phrase did not exist in English before those books came out. Some competitors released similar material, but they had to use a different name.

A big issue here is that it is not universally recognised as a brand name. As a Swede born in the late 80's, I had heard the phrase but only in reference to a style of story (aka, a genre), and it was not until my university years about a decade ago that an American student informed me there was an actual brand name behind the term.

I'm willing to bet you will even find many Americans born 80's and later that also recognise it as a genre rather than a brand name. Thus it might have made sense to give them the privilege of a trademark back in the 70's and 80's, but at this point it should be void.

On the more general topic though; the biggest problem with IP law, in my opinion, is that you are considered guilty until proven innocent. Put the burden of evidence on the claimant and the problem will probably go away on its own. There are problems with that as well, but then we are going into an area hard to debate in a comment section.

Steam for Linux can now run games in a special container

Quoting: pb> allow you to isolate your Home folder

I hope it will finally allow users on SteamOS have separate game/achievement progress even if the game saves it to $HOME instead of e.g. steam cloud. Also good for the sake of keeping $HOME tidy, although that I've already accomplished by other means (`HOME=~/saves steam`).

:O

How come I've never thought about such a simple solution to keeping games from cluttering up my home? Any gotchas you've found with that solution so far?

Quoting: vildravnCould this be another hint towards the rumoured cloud service?
I'd assume it is more a let's-kill-32-bit (see e.g. ubuntu) fail-safe. Thoughts?

Reading the announcement it seems likely that you are spot-on.

Also likely to try and deal with games that have peculiar dependencies that they did not consider bundling with the game and breaks on newer version of libs etc.
