The Witcher 3 For Linux Remains Officially Unconfirmed
18 August 2014 at 4:52 pm UTC

Quoting: berillionsBut why GoG (which is a branch of CDPR) release a Linux version of GoG and why CPDR release The Witcher 2 (by Virtual Programming) on Linux too if they don't want to release TW3 on Linux ?

And why not? GOG added Linux support because many users and developers asked for it. They earn money on selling Linux games. Linux support in the Witcher 2 was added by reusing the eON port from Virtual Programming which was already done for OS X. They thought it will be easy to reuse. It came out not so good, so VP are working on fixing it now. Releasing Witcher 3 for Linux is a whole different beast to deal with. So I wouldn't measure TW3 efforts by anything else. Of course the fact that GOG started supporting Linux means that general attitude towards Linux in CD Projket Red has improved. But TW3 is a big project and whether it will get a Linux version would depend on their efforts with REDengine.

Quoting: berillionsActually, it's a good thing even if it's unconfirmed...

The Linux/Mac version is planned after the Windows release, i'm completly sure and it's absolutely certain. Why ? Because instead of to say "No Linux version planned for this game" to , Michał Stec said "It’s too early to say", "We’ll see after that" -> CDPR wants to take out a version but has not begun the development yet.

I'd say they are simply avoiding answering the question. It's better than straight no, but it doesn't guarantee anything really.

The Witcher 3 Is Reportedly Really Coming To Linux

Official interview on Gamescom 2014:

QuoteQ: Will Witcher 3 be coming to Linux?

A: It’s too early to say, we’re focusing on releasing it on PC, Xbox One and PS 4, same quality, same experience to all the players. We’ll see after that, Linux, Mac I guess it might be planned but I do not know about it yet.

If I'll come up with any ideas about articles, I can contribute.

The Witcher 2 Gains Yet Another Performance Beta
14 August 2014 at 4:45 pm UTC

Quoting: SirBubblesWhy is it that others seem to have so much worse performance with Witcher 2 than I do? I have almost everything at max at a resolution of 1440x900, the only thing I can think of is setting opengl to be version 3.something instead of 2

Where do you set such preference for OpenGL exactly?

And they have a github where they store all their update notes (the github is literally a readme of update notes haha) and where they ask us to report problems here: https://github.com/KillaW0lf04/The-Witcher-2-Issues

That Github link is in the article. Or was it added later?

A New The Witcher 2 Linux Beta Appears, Improved Performance
12 August 2014 at 3:38 am UTC

Quoting: IvancilloIt is really true that GoG.com is very conservative when releasing / supporting games.

So conservative that they release games for Linux of other companies rather than publish its in-house games.

They seem to prefer to publish it on Steam either.

Crazy world.

GOG has high bar for quality unlike Steam, which is good. So it's an implicit acknowledgement that Witcher 2 had a poor quality at release. In this sense GOG are perfectly correct not to sell it yet. Steam took all the flak :) On the other hand I wouldn't mind GOG providing some kind of opt-in beta program as well for those who want to test games. I would help testing the Witcher 2 if the beta was available on GOG, but I'm not using Steam so I just wait for the release.

GOG Has More Linux Games Added To Their Collection

Good to see them catching up on current games. I hope they'll eventually break the wall with Disney, Activision and EA regarding old games as well. Quite a number of great games are still missing in their library (Loom, Full Throttle, VtM Bloodlines, Neverhood and others) which can be released for Linux in ScummVM / Wine.

Quoting: liamdaweWow, so Arch could possibly be Steam's number 2 distro right now. That's a lot of users.
Debian also doesn't install lsb by default. At least I didn't have it in my Debian testing. It has lsb-release and lsb-base though.
I do not follow. All I have in my package manager regarding LSB is lsb-release and Steam is able to tell me what operating system version I am running.

It's enough then. Debian has lsb-release as well. lsb is a meta package that pulls in more related stuff (like rpm and etc.). I just answered to a previous post which mentioned lsb package specifically.
