Want to play Track Mania Nations Forever on Linux using Wine? There's a snap for that

Quoting: slaapliedjeSnaps have already had some malware uploaded to it. Looks like there definitely needs some more auditing to be done.
That's right and people have to be extra vigilant when installing things from the snap store. But in the case of TMNF, the snap package is done by Canonical developers.

Want to play Track Mania Nations Forever on Linux using Wine? There's a snap for that

Quoting: buenaventuraWhat a good idea, I would love this for alot of titles. Like Hearthstone! Or other F2P games.
Saw this on OMGUbuntu: there's a flatpak repo with some games, including Overwatch and World of Warcraft. I'm not sure there are other Blizzard games but it's quite likely they'll add HearthStone and Heroes of the Storm (maybe even StarCraft 2) as they work quite well with Wine. Maybe it's even possible to install them from the Battle.net client that has to be included with Overwatch/WoW, I'm not sure how flatpaks handle downloading data.

Quoting: MakiStrangely enough it complains about lacking dx9 when I try to run it. Shouldn't the snap install that?
Last time I installed TMNF with Wine, I don't remember having to install DX9. I think it should work with Wine's implementation.

Compact action-RPG 'The Swords of Ditto' is out with day-1 Linux support

Is that a general issue or specific to Linux?

Battle Royale game 'Darwin Project' looks like it might actually be coming to Linux

Darwin Project just switched to free2play (source: Rock Paper Shotgun. Not sure if it's good news as this kind of move is usually the beginning of the end for games that are not economically viable. Any idea of the current status of the Linux port with this change?

Humble Indie Bundle 19 is now live!

Quoting: subI can think of at least another one.
Splot by Frozenbytes.
I thought about it but AFAIK, it was never released out of beta for Windows/Mac either. That's a very special case.

Quoting: enzFirst time in a while that all games in the bundle had Linux support, just like the early humble bundles. Although there are still additional games to be added to the bundle in 5 days, so this could still change.
The rule from the beginning is that Humble Indie Bundles are Windows + Mac + Linux. There are two of them every year I think. When they started adding bundles without a Linux version for every game (or any at all), they gave them various names but it's never "Indie".

The games added in a few days are supposed to have Linux support too. It's likely they've already been featured in old bundles, though.

There's been one exception to this rule: a HIB featured Giana Sisters without a Linux version and the Humble team promised the port would be added "very soon" after. It was four years ago...

Quoting: EhvisThe "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" image has red exclamation marks over the Mac and Linux icons and it says "key not available". Anybody know what that means?
It's the Oculus version, which is Windows only. After you've bought the bundle, check your purchase page. You'll have the option to select either the Steam version (Windows + Mac + Linux) or the Oculus one. Not both, so choose the Steam one for Linux, obviously. After this, the key will appear in your library/account on the Keys page.

The Talos Principle going Fusion, Croteam dropping OpenGL & Serious Sam 4 still coming

Quoting: GuestI _think_ it will just work for you. You could try it right now, but it depends if your chosen distro provides mesa with radv included (and up to date). Others can help more there to make sure - I'm not familiar working with Mate.
Ubuntu MATE 17.10 with Padoka's PPA for Mesa stable. All I know is that Mesa is up to date (well, stable version, not GIT, though there are other PPAs for the dev version but I'd rather stick with this one), I have no idea if it includes Radv; if someone knows...

QuoteIf you have Talos, that has an option to start with Vulkan right now. Dota2 supposedly (I don't play it). Some Feral games as well.
Yeah, I'll try to reinstall Talos and Dota 2 to check that. Thanks.

Quoting: GuestProbably best to think of radeonsi as the mesa driver component (userspace) for OpenGL, and radv as the equivalent for Vulkan. It's not a matter of switching on the fly - they're accessed depending if the application wants OpenGL or Vulkan. So radeonsi and radv coexist quite nicely.

Basically, stick with radv, you'll be fine. I don't know of a nicely laid out support matrix, but radv runs on SI parts. Not sure if it's officially conformant for SI, but apparently runs.
Ok, but I am wondering if I have to install anything, setup anything (currently, I have a tailored xorg.conf which loads the "radeon" driver) and so on, or if I just have to launch a Vulkan game and it'll work straight away.

I'm not exactly in a hurry as I don't think I have games that use Vulkan (Dota 2 maybe?) but I may as well start gathering information on this now. :)

Quoting: GuestI think that's a supported GPU by radv. So you can Vulkan with "Mesa" (specifically radv, which has been rolled into Mesa).
That would be great but I was wondering if radv really handled more GPUs than AMDGPU-PRO. Is there a list somewhere? Also, are both drivers (radeonsi and radv) loaded concurrently and then switched on the fly depending on the game?

QuoteAs others have mentioned, Croteam can provide older builds in some form, so Talos should continue to work regardless (though a hoop or two may need jumping through, depending on how it's rolled out).
Sure, they can, but it doesn't mean they will, especially as they're doing this move to stremaline their engine, so they might not want to support an older version alongside the new one.
