Humble Choice has Hi-Fi RUSH, Yakuza: Like a Dragon and a Humble Store Spring Sale

Quoting: emphyWhatsup with that? Does the pachislot machine happen to be a place where one can gamble away real money, either directly or via in-game fantasy currency?
I read about this at some point and asked a coworker who is a fan of the series, and they told me it's just a rather pointless Japanese-style slot machine minigame where you can win items that can all be obtained elsewhere. I don't mind fun minigames, but this one sounds like a waste of time to me.

Quoting: emphyAs I mentioned before, I am rather disenchanted with those steam deck labels due to the lack of clarity on whose door one is supposed to knock when stuff goes downhill.

Valve should, at the very least, include an extra category to indicate whether the dev will commit to supporting the deck/proton.

Well they fixed in less than 12 hours, so... No real complains from me :)

This a SteamOS remix or they trying to make their own? I don't see reason to make one from scratch which will have limited support, unless they base it on ARCH and use that.

i think they want to make sure that people who want to gamble spend on real gamble.

Interesting that Valve cares that much about the Flatpak package, but don't want to officially adopt it.

True, and I'd say it mostly comes down to just the fact that Valve is a business and cares about customer service.

Realistically a lot of people are choosing to use Steam via Flatpak these days, rightly or wrongly.

If those people have a bad experience then that's "a bad Steam experience". Even if it's not officially supported. Sure Valve could say "We told you that's not officially supported" but it doesn't matter. Bad experience is bad experience, and if the bad experience happens while in Steam, that's "a bad Steam experience". Bad Steam experiences means less sales.

It's one of those "The customer is always right" situations. Doesn't matter if officially you don't support something, if that's where your users are, gotta try to make it the best experience possible. Good businesses are always bending over backwards trying to give customers good experiences.

Quoting: scaineI'm gonna be that guy and point out that both Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Hi-fi Rush are encumbered by Denuvo DRM. Otherwise, I'd have bought this bundle. Actually, that's a lie - I'd have bought Hi-fi Rush on release if they hadn't put that keek on it. There are still, today, about 5 or 6 titles I'd have spent my money on if it wasn't for Denuvo - Monster Hunter Rise, Strange Brigade, Deathloop, Atomic Heart, Gotham Knights and a handful of JRPG games, like Octopath or Legend of Mana.

I'd probably have bought Far: Changing Tides too. It's a £15 indie with frequent £5 sales, so no idea what it's doing with Denuvo on it. I suppose that's the problem with Denuvo - this title will clear around 1.5M in revenue, and 15 months of Denuvo will cost them 350K, so they still clear £1.15M. But they'd have to be properly deluded to think that pirates would cost them over £350K in sales. But they still put Denuvo on there...

I'm gonna be that other guy and say that, since yakuza: like a dragon is a playable dlc-shop, I was never going to buy it any ways, despite it being available drm-free on gog.

On a side note, that version has the disclaimer:

QuotePlease note that the DRM-Free version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon does not include the Pachislot machine minigame with the related items and DLC.

QuoteThis one actually does have a Native Linux version, although the version on Steam hasn't been updated for a while, as the developer prefers people to use Proton as they previously said due to engine issues it worked a lot better in Proton.
AKA incompetent developers or they're too resource starved. Either way don't care, hard pass. No, I don't care if Proton is good enough. I've got a large enough game library to be extra picky on certain things.

Hmm when they don't mention Linux explicitly it probably Windows-only. The Windows and Linux video encoding libraries are different so they probably don't share much code/behavior. But I could be wrong!

QuoteOne of the interesting tweaks is that Valve adjusted the CSS to "reduce feature leaks", I guess they're growing a little tired of certain people scraping it constantly to see what they're working on. I wonder if they have something specific coming up they don't want spoilt? What do you think?

Aaah i see it's actually the new version of the easy anti cheat that breaks things... still weird that this happens without a patch from valve prior to this update (eac).

Quoting: BrokattRemember that most PC gamers are not that tech savvy.
This still seems weird to me. I can accept that it's true, but it's weird.

I blame the crypto mining boom making prebuilt PCs a cheaper way to upgrade than building your own stuff for a while, the lack of dedicated server options for a lot of games meaning that you don't need to learn how to port forward anymore, how much is automated in Windows (often against your will), and the lack of manual modding support for games (most stuff is automated through things like R2Modman, Steam Workshop, Mod Organizer 2, and Mod.io nowadays) and search bars like the one in the taskbar on windows and even stuff on Linux like Rofi/Pop Launcher meaning you don't have to really understand filesystems as much as you used to, either.

To be clear, I think having a mod manager is a good thing, things SHOULD work that way instead of manually replacing files in my opinion, though that leads to lost skills obviously, plus I have strong disdain for matchmaking based multiplayer cause it removes the social "town square" element of servers that specialized in specific kinds of gameplay with specific regulars of people you could meet and become fast friends with.

When a skill is no longer needed, it atrophies in people.

I bet Obsidian is sweating bullets right now as their game is coming out soon. Also wondering about Double Fine, and maybe inXile. It's nice Microsoft got them through the pandemic and all, but the way the industry is looking they better deliver that value (the way Bethesda did not?), no matter what Uncle Phil says.

Gods, seeing the team that made Hi-Fi Rush shutter hurts. That was a game I tried out on a game pass trial and I loved every second of it. Always hurts to see a game dev studio get bought out by a big company only to make a few games and shut them down after a year or two.
