Steam Survey for April 2024 shows a small dip for Steam Deck
By Lachu, 2 May 2024 at 11:08 am UTC

I think statistics shown Linux gain new users. Why? There is small amount of drop in Steam Deck usage. Current Linux players do not be calculated twice. Many do not change distro and if somebody bought Steam Deck, it would not be calculated as user, who stop using it. So current Linux users could bought Steam Deck and be calculated as Steam Deck users. What we have is decrease of Steam Deck users and increase of other distro usage, so: We have had new Linux users. But, why Linux marketshare drops? I think the reason are Chinese users.

Played the game on the OLED, it's quite fun and the 90Hz make it even more enjoyable, I will try to convince some friends to try it out (or force them, with cookies)

Steam Deck most played for April 2024 has plenty of Fallout
By Eri, 2 May 2024 at 7:30 am UTC Likes: 1

Following the Fallout trend I decided to give a chance to 76 and I'm glad I did. In some ways is better than vanilla FO4, more enemies, more weapons, better base building and you don't have to worry about your camp being attacked, some patrols will spawn from time to time but only if you are at your camp, a couple of well placed turrets once you learn where the spawn point is and forget about it.
A lot of camp stuff is locked behind a paywall but daily, weekly and character challenges give you premium currency, I've already bought some neat stuff with those. What annoys me is the stash limit.

One of the things I like the most is the community, I've met a lot of friendly people. Each server capacity is 24 players, but is a big map so most of the time you have the classic lonely experience I love from these games, but from time to time you stumble upon another vault dwellers with their wave emote ready to go, they even leave their camp collectors unlocked so you can go and take some water/food if you need it. And vets don't have any problem to assist you if you ask for help, they even invite you to a team if you show up to a high level world event (which I recommend, easy exp, just tap every enemy once even if you do 0 damage, you'll get the exp when they die).

The perk and special system is adapted to the online formula but is very flexible, don't think too hard about your build at the beginning, focus on a type of weapon and pick your perks around it. Besides that, choose the perks you like, you can always swap them if you change your mind, even redistribute your special points once you reach level 50.

The cherry on top is the absence of anti cheat and absolutely 0 problems with Steam Deck.

TL;DR: Fallout 76 deserves a second chance if you like the franchise, a very different game for what a I remember from the 2018 reviews.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPIt is a very promising game, but currently extremely bare bones.
Definitely overhyped (for what it offers right now).
Spot on!

It was fun until you realize: That's all there is.. And then I got annoyed by the missing feedback: What food is produced at what rate?

It looks very nice but the problem is: some buildings look very alike. So you have to click your way through your village to find what you want.
And I found myself spending too much time moving families from one work to another. Feels like this needs some QOL. Or maybe I'm too dumb :D

Pick up Golf With Your Friends, Trepang2, Gord, Neon Abyss and more in this bundle
By Phlebiac, 2 May 2024 at 6:27 am UTC

The bottom tier stuff has been bundled before, the middle tier stuff doesn't have great reviews, and the top tier game is on sale for less than the bundle total. So doesn't seem like a great one to me...

Quoting: fritzyIt's too bad that they (reportedly) broke so many mods with the latest update to Fallout 4. I was thinking about revisiting it with some mods that toned down the base-management parts of the game. I stopped in the middle of my original play-through after I was told "Another settlement needs your help" one too many times.

Oops. Sounds like the reason I gave up on Mad Max. Is there really a Fallout with busywork?

I'll probably not be playing much on the Deck for the next little while. I replaced my broken GPU on the desktop, so I'm going back for another go of Death Stranding there. I did play a bunch of that some time ago, but towards the end the game removes all the fun & I stopped; I'm starting again from the beginning. What I'd like to do is stream the game from the desktop to the Deck, but Remote Play has gone janky again.

I did complete Full Void on the Deck, though. I also had another try of Invisible, Inc there; that one would be hugely improved on the Deck if they'd backported the controller work that they did for the console release.

Crazy disappointing considering Ubuntu 23.10 had Gamescope, and it's needed to use lots of nice features. Could they not have just used the older version that has the old dependencies?
Can Gamescope be installed as a Flatpak or Snap?
So if they merged those two projects, would you call them Flatsnaks?

Quoting: Linux_RocksThe controls on the Saturn version are much better with the 3D controller or steering wheel. It's playable with the regular controller once you can get used to it, but it takes a lot longer. Regardless, as a kid I still loved it, and I still do love it. lol
I owned both versions, and honestly I got on better using the regular controller probably because I started off with the PC port. That, and I didn't like the Saturn's analogue controller - the shape hurt my hands, unfortunately.

Such a shame that the Saturn version didn't have any desktop-backgrounds hidden on the disc like Sonic Jam did!

Quoting: Linux_RocksYou can always try the PC version again. There's fixes for modern OSes at the PCGamingWiki via that link.
I'll probably just go with the Saturn version - it sounds like a lot less hassle.

Quoting: Linux_RocksHere's some good Sonic racing music to go with this.
Sonic R was pretty janky (though I did play the Windows 95 port to death on my first laptop, with its horrible DSTN display, all those years ago), but man, the soundtrack and atmosphere were phenomenal.

I need to set up a good control-layout and revisit the Saturn version on my Steam Deck, one of these days...

Fallout 4 is WAY too much janky base building. Fallout 3 is just simply too old at this point. New Vegas with some mods is the best way you can go these days.
