Arx Libertatis is a cross-platform, open source port of Arx Fatalis, a 2002 first-person role-playing game developed by Arkane Studios.
It's nice to see an open source engine reach a proper stable status where it can be played properly!
Arx Fatalis features crafting, melee and ranged combat, as well as a unique casting system where the player draws runes in real time to effect the desired spell.
The Arx Libertatis source code is based on the publicly released Arx Fatalis sources and available under the GPL 3+ license. This does however not include the game data, so you need to obtain a copy of the original Arx Fatalis or it's demo to play Arx Libertatis.

Does anyone own it/played it, if so is it worth picking up? From the video it actually looks pretty decent.

I just ran trough the demo, not long enough to introduce me to some of the game dynamics.

well via crossover, the crossover installation was painless, install grimrock, then install directx modern and that is it, runs very very smooth, had to enable vsync else me card would get to hot :) via wine it also works but the steps are a little different from what I read on the GoG forum. I had forgotten how much I loved the old dungeon master/eye of the beholder games, the puzzles the exploring, took me a total of 14 hours with a self made party on normal mode trying to get as many hidden stuff as I could.
And with the promise of an editor coming out the game will only grow, I can just smell a remake of DM & CSB :)
ps: the GoG 1.1.4 version (GoG installer 1.0.0.8) has a error, remove the D3DX9_43.dll from the Grimrock directory, the Steam version of the version you can get from the developers via Humble Shop does not have this issue.

I had some issues with my original CD as it did not hold the ArxFatalis_1.21_MULTILANG.exe they kept referring to in the readme, so installed the cd via crossover/wine, then patched to 1.21 and use the install-copy script.
Have to say it runs really smooth and does not even look as outdated as I had thought it would. But the awkward interface will require some getting use to again, specially the move look/movement mode which we find normal these days but it won't allow you to do all you want, to drag stuff in/out of inventory you need to go another mode.
Exploring wise I think you can compare it best to Ultima Underworld, but the magic system is diffrent, you draw the runs on the screen, thank fully you can draw up to 3 in advance.

I'm also playing Legend of Grimrock via Wine (1.5.2) and the only thing I needed to do to get it working is this:

in clean Wineprefix (it's important) than just unpack install.exe from the zip archive and install the game. It works very good aside from sound problems with OSSv4 (Open Sound System) in Wine. I ran it on max graphicall settings (with SSAO set to high) in 1920x1080 fullscreen and I get constant framerate above 30 and if I set SSAO to disabled it goes as high as 60 fps.

Distro: Ubuntu 11.10
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+

OW ps ... this game is not a traditional RPG where you get to choice between different classes.
In order to not shoot yourself in the foot HARD, you need to make a fairly balanced character.
For example a sneaky bower will have some hard patches ... So you are warned.
On the bright sight for 75% of the time the game has been fun.
And money isn't a real issue ... nor is there expensive stuff you can buy, so you don't need to waste skillpoints on the stuff that makes you rich.
