For anybody who's not aware, Chris Roberts (the guy behind Wing Commander, Privateer and Freelancer) has opened up a crowdfunding campaign to support the development of a new space exploration/combat/trading sim called Star Citizen.
Star Citizen passed its funding target a little while back and they've opened up a poll asking for the community to vote on their three favourites stretch goals. Included in the options is Linux support, which currently is the second most popular non-game content option.

Unless they're considering an engine switch, this would also mean Cryengine 3 support for Linux, as hinted at by Chris on Reddit recently (which would have implications for Linux gaming well beyond Star Citizen).
Voting seems to be open to anybody regardless of whether they're currently backing the project or not.

to be honest I am a bit dubious about this one, it allegedly got 20 million in private funding, saying they would not do one a few days later they had a [URL='http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cig/star-citizen']kickstarter[/URL] where it took 872k, which was 372k more then needed, it added stretch goals like a repair robot which I think are just silly stretch goals, same goes for the stretch goals on this crowd funding... at 3.5 million (so 500k from the 3 million stretch goal) you gone get cockpit decorations..............
I will sit this one out, if it comes out for Linux and it's any good I will line up to buy it, but I feel a bit iffy about funding it.

Do you have a source for the private investment stuff? I haven't been able to find any information on that at all.
Apparently they launched a Kickstarter campaign in response to fan requests after their own site died under unanticipated traffic (some people also expressed preference for Kickstarter as a payment method as funds aren't drawn until the campaign is over, and some people prefer to only give their credit card details, etc. to Kickstarter).

From what I understand, this stretch goal represents ship interior customisation in general rather than just "bobbleheads".

Fair enough. Ultimately, whether it makes it to Linux or not will depend on Crytek rather than these guys, though I imagine that highlighting Linux demand in this survey (which you don't need to be a supporter to vote in) would be nice even if it's only to remind the Star Citizen community that people care about it.

why I kept it at allegedly :) what I could find is that is the 2mil is reached on the crowd funding then the private investors would kick in, not the amount though, but seen that number fly on the forums.

Ah. I'd take the speculation of fans on forums for detail on those kinds of numbers very lightly.

according to [URL='http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/chris-roberts-star-citizen-needs-your-money-to-get-more-money-and-promises-']this one[/URL] its a 10-12mil project with 2-4mil from crowd funding, so makes it 8-10mil private. so the crowd funding/kickstarter is just to show a 3rd party there is interest enough in the game ?

Voted. Linux is currently in 6th place, well ahead of Mac OS. All the other features have to do with what will be in the game. CryEngine 3 coming to Linux would be amazing.
