Okay so that was an odd headline! We have only 4 days left of our hosting campaign to get you to help us cover the cost of hosting, please consider helping us out!

Just FYI I’m not looking to hit £600 indiegogo just has a minimum you have to set which is that in GBP, if we can even hit over £200 that would make this year solid for us!

Also as a side-note if you use adblock please consider adding us to your whitelist.

You may not know this but otherwise GOL is paid for 100% by me and I am unemployed with a family to feed as well so along with running GOL i also have to job hunt since GOL currently brings in on average about £0.03 per day (sob story time :P!) but even if you can't pledge then be sure to just share our content on all your favourite websites and help us continue to grow!

Good news - Today officially made our busiest month unique traffic wise since GOL began, so we are still growing, it looks like we may hit an extra 10,000 unique hits over last month, not bad growth by any measure!

Also I got our host to enable output compression (not sure why it's off by default..) so that pages are compressed for all supporting browsers (not sure if any don't support it since it's been around so long!), so the website should load faster!

Thank you everyone, long live Linux gaming! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I was having problems trying to donate through the Indiegogo page so I just sent my contribution directly to you.

Long live GoL! :)

Thank you very much!

Those bots/spammers are getting smarter ;)
Hope my posts helped a bit, I see you got some new hosts suggestions on reddit and you even tried one: http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/17fij5/4_days_left_to_fund_gamingonlinux_hosting/
Hope your new host will be cheaper and better.

BTW yesterday I have received yet another offer from a casino site to post their banner for a year on LGN.
But I guess they didn't agree for my offer of a modest $100,000 a year ;) (I'm tired of declining their offers all the time).

Hmm i need to ad getting IP on comments so i can ban that IP next time it tries it...

By the way, there also seems to be an awful lot of spam pages on the Gaming Wiki. I discovered them by clicking the Random page link.

Maybe you should make the wiki editable only by registered users?
Liam Dawe Jan 29, 2013
Hmm I will look at deleting them and banning every author of those pages :)

I have locked the wiki front page to admin only so at least that won't get botched.

In many countries a dynamic IP is used (the IP in my house changes every time I reboot unless I actually buy and pay a monthly fee for a static IP).
muntdefems Jan 29, 2013
Liam, I see you already deleted all the spam pages on the wiki but you may have to reconsider some banning you did, because now I can't edit the crowdfunding page, nor create an account. When trying to do any of those things it says my IP has been blocked by DNSBL:

QuoteYour username or IP address has been blocked.

The block was made by DNSBL. The reason given is Your IP address is listed as an open proxy in the DNSBL used by GamingOnLinux.com Linux Games Wiki..

I'm connecting from Barcelona (Spain), and IIRC some of the junk pages were about holidays in Spain, so that could well be the origin of the spam.

Could you please do something to refine the ban so I can continue editing the wiki? If you need my IP or details about my ISP we can discuss it via PM. ;)

Thanks!

Hmm that's annoying, I have removed that then. Hopefully the other measures will still help (no one but me can create pages now). So if anyone wants a page they will have to ask me to put it up.

Thanks! ^_^
