Double Fine Productions is now on Desura

By -
Double Fine Productions has started releasing their game titles on Desura. Most of their games have been available on both Steam and the Humble Store for quite some time already, with most having made their Linux debut earlier this year as part of the Humble Double Fine Bundle. This is the first time that the studio notably headed by video game auteur Tim Schafer has turned their attention to Desura however, although we were already well aware that they were more than open to looking at new distribution platforms as early as this time last year.

The first Double Fine title to be released on Desura will be Costume Quest on December 14, 2013:
QuoteCostume Quest is a Halloween adventure from Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions. In this charming role-playing game, choose your hero and trick-or-treat through three beautiful environments full of Double Fine humor and story. Complete quests, build your party, and collect costumes along the way that allow you to transform into powerful champions and take down the evil Repugians. This heroic holiday tale will capture the imaginations of kids and kids-at-heart.

This will then be followed by Stacking a day later on December 15, 2013:
QuoteFrom Tim Schafer’s Double Fine Productions, explore a vintage world inhabited by living Russian stacking dolls as you jump into more than 100 unique dolls and use their special abilities to solve a wide variety of puzzles & challenges. Play as Charlie Blackmore, the world’s tiniest Russian stacking doll, and embark on an adventure to rescue Charlie’s family from the nefarious industrialist known only as the “Baron.” This imaginative 3rd person puzzle adventure game will take you on a journey from a bustling Royal Train Station to a high-flying Zeppelin as you collect unique dolls and matched stacking sets to display in Charlie’s secret hideout, where you chronicle your adventures.

Finally, they will release their heavy metal inspired title Brütal Legend on December 16, 2013:
QuoteBrütal Legend is an action-adventure that marries visceral action combat with open-world freedom. Set in a universe somewhere between Lord of the Rings and Spinal Tap, it’s a fresh take on the action/driving genre, which in this case is full of imitation cover bands, demons intent on enslaving humanity and Heavy metal tunes. Featuring the talents of comedian, actor and musician, Jack Black as super roadie Eddie Riggs, as well as cameos by some of the biggest names in metal music it's a wild ride in the belly of the beast that is not to be missed by gamers and Metalheads alike. Included as a free bonus in the PC version of Brütal Legend are both the Hammer of Infinite Fate and Tears of the Hextadon multiplayer map packs.

Strangely enough, the company's flagship title Psychonauts, which I reviewed earlier this year, is notably absent from this list. Still, it is nice to see Desura get some more higher profile titles, and the big question on my mind is whether or not Humble Bundle purchasers will be granted Desura keys like they have been for these titles on Steam already. DF games are awesome, it's great they're available on Desura too.

Psychonauts is now up and is even available for purchase, but not for Linux:

The optimist in me is hoping that this is a sign they are making a few more updates to the Linux port and that they are waiting for those to be finished before uploading it. Regardless, I have asked about its absence on the the Psychonauts Desura profile page.

Pyschonauts is now up for Linux as well, although I am slightly disappointed that my completely unsupported hunch about the possibility of it getting further updates seems to have been proven wrong. Now all of the games that were featured in the Humble Double Fine Bundle are available on Desura, although I have still not seen any word on the potential for Desura keys for Humble Bundle customers. I may try poking them about it more directly.
