BlastEm has released a new major update recently adding some highly needed features, it's always good to see old systems get preserved through emulators.
Since getting a working console is quite hard to come by now (that isn't overpriced!), emulators like this gives me hope that one day future generations can enjoy the games I grew up with. The Sega Megadrive (as it was known in the UK) or Genesis as it was known in the US was my first ever console.
It's open source too.
I look forward to trying out a few games on it in the future!

@manny Gambatte is the best and most accurate Gameboy emulator right now
My favourite emulator is higan. It's probably the most accurate SNES emulator out there and is compatible with every commercialy released SNES game.

Regarding emulation, is there anyone who knows of a quick and painless way to get the best plugins for doing some ps1 emulation on linux? Everything I found when I looked the other day either seemed really old, or needed to be compiled, or both...

For the Playstation, there is another emulator, called pcsx-r.
The best playstation emulator is (the windows version of) epsxe with gsdx gpu plugin from the pcsx2 emulator.
