In a move that has delighted me, Valve has split up the Steam Hardware Survey to better show each platform individually.
So, we now don't have this random "other" in the main list, it seems some of it is now accounted for in each lists total, hooray!
Something to note is that it doesn't show the lesser represented distro's, I for example use Manjaro which isn't shown.
So, to look back on January Linux was actually on 1.34%, not 1.11%!

It's good to finally get a more accurate look at the Steam stats. I hope they keep this in place in a few days for February's statistics.

There are 10 different windows versions in the survery... that's the good thing about that OS, developers only need one computer for testing, as there isn't any fragmentation :D

thanks for the news, I'm looking at the stats right now and CPU frequency and Physical CPUs now shows data for each platform as well and it is quite interesting:
- Intel is slightly more common in Linux systems compared to Windows system
- Linux users must still have quite a few P4 around (Intel 3.7 GHz or faster)
- surprisingly the number of system with a single core CPU is increasing among Linux user (the percentage consistently increased from 3.73% (Sep13) to 4.51% (Jan14)

I still have several 32 bit only computers on my network simply due to the hardware. Some people forget how popular Linux is on older hardware. I also only have one or two machines on my network which have more than 4 GB of RAM, which is one of the main things that makes 64 bit attractive.

Not hate, but 64bit only in the future is inevitable as games grow. It can also create issues for some developers having to support both.
Also, I can't say i've heard of 32bit programs being faster than 64bit?

So looks like I was wrong.
I thought your comment was odd heh, I always remember 64bit being better than 32bit. It is not just more RAM that makes it worthwhile.

BTW, when the survey appeared to me, i was counted as Linux 64bit (I use Arch Linux)

check your cat /etc/lsb-release
the part where it says:
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Arch Linux"
thats detected, so if you have Kubuntu there, then you are not in the Ubuntu list
people without lsb package are under general "Linux 64bit" or "Linux 32bit"

I get the survey every month as soon as I start Steam using Wine.

I've been using Steam for several months on a couple of different (64bit) machines, a wine install (for Skyrim), and very occasionally a Windows install. The only time I've been polled was the ultra-rare occasion that I used the Windows install... If there's really a bug where it doesn't properly poll the Linux clients, that seems like a serious issue concerning there chances to convince devs to port over to Linux!!
