Valve has shown off the latest iteration of their Steam Controller and it's looking sexier than ever. They have removed the touch-screen and quite frankly I think it looks far better.
BEHOLD!
They will have some stalls setup at the Game Developer Conference this month for people to play-test with them, still no word on public availability as after-all this may not be the last design change.
I seriously do wonder how well those touch-pads work for FPS games, I imagine you could get used to them fairly quickly for RTS games, but I am still not sold on them for fast paced fluid FPS gaming.
You can be sure as soon as we get a chance to purchase one, we will be on it to do a review for you.

I used something similar to these touchpads (but not as advanced) and I was generally quite pleased with it, I'm looking forward to testing the Valve controller :)

same i think there will be no problem with fps games the only thing i'm concerned a bought is if there will be enough buttons to play all games and the layout. as well as it being made with all kinds of gaming in mind.

I can't wait for this!! Definitely looks better now, and the D-pad-as-buttons thing is a great idea, I think. Avoids the problem plaguing nearly every modern non-Nintendo, non-Sony gamepad, and the entire pad is completely symmetrical, meaning it's not just dead sexy, but also lefty-friendly (I'd imagine you left-handers could even pop it open and swap the arrow and letter buttons, if you really wanted to).

I think they are in the clear button wise since it seems to have 2 more buttons that the xbox 360 controller! What concerns me though if your sitting in the couch with that thing how are you going to be able to do voice communication if you can't connect a headset.

Add this to the list of tech I want to try but must wait until it's out for the commoners; I'm looking at you, Occulus Rift!
The analogue, erm, touchpad placements are an interesting choice. I'm not a fan of Microsoft, generally, but if there's one thing I like it's their gamepad (save for the wonky D-Pad), so I'm curious as to how this one compares.
