We have covered Contagion the awesome looking survival FPS that plans to come to Linux, but they have now detailed what's going on and they need Valve's help.

QuoteWe've run into numerous walls and both Dec and Michael have overcome most but not all of them. Right now if we're to deliver even the basics for servers we need Valve's support which we've sought out and are hoping they'll respond shortly. But there is another answer and that requires us to deviate from our current production schedule and weekly updates (Don't worry CE_Biotec is still planned to release next month though maybe a tad later than expected due to these delays). We may need to rebuild a large portion of the code and if it comes to that we should have Linux up and running, to those who want more and aren't Linux users this should mean an even bigger increase to performance, improved lighting, and more. We will have to see if Valve responds or not to weigh our options (as we'd be looking into this later either way just at a more convenient time).

Source

If you didn't know already the game is actually using a heavily modified Source engine to run. So this is why Valve are probably the ones to help them on this. I would be surprised if Valve kept them waiting since not only is it using part of their own tech, but Valve do of course want as many games on Linux as possible.

So, it's anyone's guess as to when we will get Contagion, as the ball is in Valve's court right now.

About
Contagion takes place in a fictional world where the original Roanoke Colony thrived up until now. A contagion of unknown origins has infected the locals turning them into a mindless horde of flesh eating zombies. It is up to the remaining survivors to escape, extract, or hunt one another if they are to survive the horrors they now face. Contagion isn't your average Zombie Shooter but instead takes a more realistic and different approach to the popular genre with unique characters, environments, weapons, items, and a built in system that makes every round completely unpredictable with resources, objectives, and paths ever changing. This actually looks really interesting to me. The game modes, the game mechanics, cool stuff. I would still like to know if there is any weapon variety, however.
