The high profile game Wasteland 2 which finally has a Linux version has announced a release date for the full version at the end of August this year, so Linux gamers the wait is almost over for a full game.
The game was funded on Kickstarter back in April of 2012, so it's been a long ride to get here. Wasteland 2 is the project that propelled Unity3D onto Linux too.
I imagine there is a lot of people extremely happy at this news, me especially as I haven't touched it until the content is complete to play all the way through.
They will also premier the opening cinematic they spent $30k on this weekend at around 3PM GMT at MCM London Comic Con. It will be interesting to see how that turned out.
They noted they haven't gone into full feature lock to be flexible, but they will need to lock down soon with a date so close. I am a little sceptical as the patch they just put up contains "half the entire game", with only a few months to finalise it. It wasn't exactly clear if they meant this is the final half of the game, or if this patch adds up to half of the game now.
Major changes
-Damonta and Missile Silo 7 have been released.
-More CNPC behaviors implemented
-Weapon jamming implemented
-Weapon mods & Stripping weapons with weaponsmithing implemented
-Game Difficulties added
-New HUD iteration
-New conversation UI iteration
-Added combat HUD
-Animal Whisperer now allows non-hostile animals to follow as pets

How have you early testers found it to be?

This was the second ever Kickstarter I backed and like you, I'm waiting for full release. It was originally planned for October last year, but as long as the spit-and-polish pays off, I'm happy to wait for an epic result. I'm not going to ruin it by beta-testing! :D

I'm with you.
Beta testing a story-driven game in development can seriously spoil the potential fun of the final product. Hard to understand why "early-access" actually works for these type of games - in particular, as they are typically even higher priced when bought as early access...

The beta is already a lot of fun and seeing how beta after beta the game get better is a nice experience.
Personally I don't feel like I'm spoiling or ruining my game so that it's no more fun to play. But I understand very well, if someone want to play the finished product.
Even helping translating the game is fun and believe me, there is a lot of spoil in there. ^_^
