It's really nice of them to just come out and say it even though it was quite obvious! It's always good to get real confirmation. They recently posted another Linux forum post stating the game no longer relies on DirectX which was another big hint.
About
Age of Wonders III is the long anticipated sequel to the award-winning strategy series. Delivering a unique mix of Empire Building, Role Playing and Warfare, Age of Wonders III offers the ultimate in turn-based fantasy strategy for veterans of the series and new players alike!
We suggest not buying it until the Linux version is released to show Linux sales. You can check it out on Steam.
The good thing is the reviews are quite positive for the game, so it looks like it's a pretty good title for us to be getting.
Exciting times we live in Linux gamers.

Nice. This will make up for the failure that was the fake Eador port

Gotta say I can't wait - and registered just to say that!
The earlier installments in this series were great, and work great in wine too!
Linux gaming is getting better every day.

Hmm, never played age of wonders 1 or 2, but from gameplay trailer it looks a lot like might and magic series. If so, when hell yes I will buy it.

@Kokuna: The older parts where the "better" HoMM. AoW3 departs a bit from the previous parts by mixing it's formular even more heavily with a CIVILISATION kind of gameplay. Also note that AoW has a much more strategic battle part, which is almost a TBS game worthy by it's own.
My only nitpick is that the performance is quite bad under windows, I hope the Linux version will run a bit better on my system. Overall really great game though!

Ok I'm gonna be a real spoiled brat now but please bear with me guys:
I think it's far, far too many strategy games on PC. Sometimes it feels like pretty much every title of a certain size are at least partially strategy based.
I mean, sure, there are other genres too. But if one look at the rooster for upcoming games then hot damn how many of them who are strategy based. Strategy RPG, strategy shooter, strategy platformer, strategy strategy strategy. And the indies? Turn-based strategy all the way, baby!
Thanks. I just had to let that rant off my chest.
I am no big strategy fan. :)

I think it's far, far too many strategy games on PC.I think that is an effect of many years without decent turnbased (fantasy) strategy games. Customers have been demanding for strategy games, so every developer started working on one.
For me, that offers the possibility to choose, which of those I'd play. If AoW3 releases for linux soon and Eador keeps me busy until then, I'll probably skip Civ5, due to lack of time.

You skip Civ5 because of Eador :O. How you even managed to play that thing is beyond my belief with it's graphical glitches.

Well, then you missed two great games, but they are still available at GOG :D

Well, I hope for them that they do the "real" thing and not a wrapper. Otherwise this would kill the game for good. At least for me. I'm still upset about the price difference on GOG.
That it can be done has been proven by Aspyr once more.

I am able to play it in wine since several month with very few graphical glitches. Only need to change the graphic settings every time I load a game. Kind of annoying, but ok for me.

What kind of setup do you have, that you can run it? If I may ask

Funny that my perception is that every other game that is released for PC (consoles too, for that matter) is a FPS.
In any case, even as far as strategy games go, ever since RTSs came into existence, TBSs have become less common, so I'm loving this small resurgence.

Which wine version? Proprietary drivers?actual wine and actual proprietary drivers. I can tell the exact versions next time I'm on my machine.
As I said, there are some glitches, but (from my point of view) very few.

Welcome to PC gaming :). This is where we depart from Console Gamers, in that we have adventure games in point and click, rts, turn-based strategy, indies, twitch FPS, Platformers (often heavily influenced by early consoles like the Snes)and all kind of bizarre genres that are hard to put into one category.
Console Games consists mainly of Platformers, Racing Games, Shooters and Sport Games.
I am not saying that one platform is better than the other (even if I am heavily biased towards one of them, and yes I have 4 consoles). In fact, in time we may see both genre converging fully. Microsoft and Valve will be doing this with Windows and SteamOS, the next xbox will surely run windows.
As for the rant, I think in a way, that the production of games reflects the demand from the market in PC gaming, so you may be in a minority, however that does not mean that you will not be heard. Look at us on Linux, we only have 1-2% of the market share, but have been taken seriously.
