I am really hoping it will be a native port since the eON technology isn't for me up to scratch at all, but maybe in future it will be who knows. They have until February 2015 to sort out the Linux version, so one would hope it will be a decent port regardless of the tech used to bring it to our platform.
If it is a real port it will blow pretty much any other action+rpg type game we have right now away.
About
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a story-driven, next-generation open world role-playing game, set in a graphically stunning fantasy universe, full of meaningful choices and impactful consequences. In The Witcher, you play as Geralt of Rivia, one of a dying caste of monster hunters, and embark on an epic journey in a war-ravaged world that will inevitably lead you to confront a foe darker than anything humanity has faced so far—the Wild Hunt.
This is great news to see CD PROJEKT RED take notice of Linux. This news follows on from the fact that GOG.com's new game client will eventually support Linux too.
UPDATE: It seems someone flipped a switch too early and it may not even happen. That's quite a big derp someone did. See our comments for more info.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: DeformalStrange thing. People hope to get on Linux better port, than on Mac.Metro: Last Light Redux, however, is only coming out for Linux and Windows so the Linux version will not be held back by the Mac OS version this time. Metro 2033 Redux is only coming out for Linux and Windows as well.
Nobody don`t want to know about Mac ports. But Linux get port from Metro last ligth of same quality as Mac port. Witcher 2 get equal ports for Mac and Linux.
So if game get bad port on Mac, don`t expect to get good port on Linux because games get Mac os port first.

Quoting: Anonymousbeefier machines = GT 210 lol. pffQuoting: GoCorinthiansPre-ordered it! Dont care if it will be a wrapper.that unfortunately doesn't fly in w2 case. i read how people with much beefier machines can't pass 10fps.
Buy a decent PC, Im running at maxsettings(ubber of).
i'm running it on 9800gt at 720p (my tv) without single problem and no frame drops whatsoever. and to make it even worse, friend is running it without problems on old amd and nvidia 520. then 3rd friend has 780gtx and i7, while his game is completely unplayable even at same settings as me. go figure
it can help if you try reading the git issues users posted, but if you're unlucky probably all you can do is wait for update. still, at least developers are pretty active in communication in that git
"3rd friend has 780gtx and i7" pff, GTX 770 4GB(Windforce) can run it at 40FPS maxsettings/1080p under Eon. In windows I can even surpass 51FPS(ubber on)

Quoting: Berillions@FutureSuture : Trine and TW2 are not the same thing ...I already tackled that.
It's more difficult to port natively TW2 than Trine. TW2 = AAA, Trine = Indies.

The fact is, I'm going to be a damn stupid consumer on this one, and as I fear that it may run like the 2nd instalment on my Linux rig, I won't buy it until problems are actually fixed.
Oh and the "buy a decent PC" is the very reason why I'm upset about this : I've actually got one. And performance is definitely horrible.

wonder what the point of your comment was, since it makes 0 sense. there is no "this hw runs and this one doesn't" in w2 case, it is just "if you're lucky it will run nice, if not... you're screwed"
doesn't matter if you went into the future with McCoys time machine and use i9 with 880GTX.

These are really breaking news. I'll buy it on GOG as soon as CD Projekt Red will confirm the news officially.

Quoting: DrMcCoyNo way this is going to be a proper port. And, like I said, I'm willing to bet 10€.
In either case, I'm not really that much into the Witcher series. I just can't stand Geralt. Cyberpunk 2077, however...
I'm not aware of any wrappers which can translate DX11 into OpenGL 4 at the moment. Unless it's some WIP which wasn't published yet. So chances are high that it's a native port of their engine. Also, don't forget that unlike with the engine from the Witcher 2, CD Projekt Red plan to release their newest engine for other developers to use, so making an inferior support for Linux is not in their interest at all.

Lots of hyperbole coming from a lot of people on this. :( Makes me sad. I don't really understand why Witcher 2 runs well on my machine and not others, but the fact is that it does, aside from slow level loading due to running on only one cpu core. I do wish that people could perhaps restrain their emotions just a tad where Eon is concerned and wait and see if things improve.
At lease CDProjekt did a better job with porting Witcher 2 to linux than From Software did of porting Dark Souls to PC. Give them some credit.

Well, if they do a proper port then yes.
But I doubt that very much after all the crap they have fed us about Linux Support on GOG and this W2 Wrapping Disaster. CDPR has no experience or much knowledge about supporting Linux.
