Universe Sandbox 2 is a physics based space simulator. We never got the original on Linux, but as teased the developers are delivering with Universe Sandbox 2.

It's not cheap at $24.99, but when did we start thinking $5 was normal for games? Game developers have too eat too! You can grab a copy from the developer directly using the Humble Store widget.

It's in Alpha, so be aware of those nasty space bugs. MEDIC!

I look forward to seeing some beautiful explosions of you all throwing massive planetary bodies into one another. So, get a copy, take a video and show it to us!

Is this Steam only? Because I recall seeing my brother playing with the original on Windows and that one did not require Steam. :S:

I hear you talkin', brother.

Back in my dual-boot days, I had the original. Fun watching planets reel away from the sun when given a change in Jupiter's gravity, etc.

This version looks much, much better, I will say

What a coincidence. I was playing the first one 2 days ago, since I came around a windows computer with my games installed on it (family sharing).
It was a good game (provided you like physics), but somewhat limited, and it had tendency to become boring to way too fast.

It looks like they have improved the graphics, and the computations, too, which is going to make this one much more interesting. In the first one, the simulations did not provide at all the same outcome, depending on the simulation speed.

I wonder, however, how this is going to work on opensource drivers, given that their openCL layer is not complete yet. Could be interesting for some benchmarks.

I will probably wait for a sale before buying it, though.

Aaand bought!

Together with Starmade this is a astrophysics / astronautics geek's wet dream.

I plan to get get the Oculus Rift when the consumer version comes out and if those two games supports it ...

Oh, download's finished, let's see how it works on Linux.
