We know that both Darksiders and Darksiders 2 are coming to Linux, but the question burning in our minds is when?! We decided to give the developer a little poke about it.

The good news is that it looks like it will be soon! We noticed new builds up on Steam using the lovely SteamDB entry for it, so we hit up the developer who gracefully replied:

@gamingonlinux It's in the (hopefully) final QA pass! ;)

He also confirmed it's just Darksiders for now, but Darksider 2 will be a bit further off as he's only one man. Big thanks for replying Leszek Godlewski! Someone send him cake.

There's masses of big games coming to Linux in the next month or so like Tropico 5, Darksiders, Borderlands 2, J.U.L.I.A.: Among the Stars, Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut and many more!

Are you excited? All aboard the hype train choochoo!

Official About

Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell. In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth.

Brought before the sacred Charred Council, War is indicted for his crimes and stripped of his powers. Dishonored and facing his own death, War is given the opportunity to return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible.

Hunted by a vengeful group of Angels, War must take on the forces of Hell, forge uneasy alliances with the very demons he hunts, and journey across the ravaged remains of the Earth on his quest for vengeance and vindication.

Looking to the release, hoping to work.

I find it so fascinating that it really only takes one man to do these ports. It can't be much work then, to get the job done?

It just amazes me, seeing how it takes hundreds of programmers several years to make those big productions.

What's more fascinating is if it ONLY takes one person to do the Linux port, why didn't they do this in the first place? One additional programmer means the game is available to an additional 100K gamers? Maybe I am grossly overestimating the amount of Linux gamers..

Additional note: the dev says it's fully native :)

I am excited for this release! Will definitely purchase this at full price as a "Thank you" because The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings apologists insist that bringing such old games to Linux natively is not worth the effort.

You underestimate the power of one determined programmer. And that's all there is too it really, programming and determination.

Going by Steam, there are approximately 795 000 Linux users to cater to. Mind, those are just the ones using Steam.

Something to remember is this is already a finished game, so it doesn't need artists, level designers, story developers or any of that.

Everything is in place, so it just needs someone to come in to move it all around to support Linux. Very different to a game that's in-development.
