I was also pretty surprised about the OMG poll; I nixed windows about a year ago (and have been using Linux for 2 years) with no regrets :)

The Bridge is indeed a nifty little "tilt the screen and let gravity work" game, like "And Yet It Moves), only hand-drawn instead of artfully torn paper. Recommended.

And yes, I deleted my Windows partition once X-COM came out. So I had bought a number of Windows games that will likely never have Linux versions. I can still play Skyrim and Oblivion (games that mean a lot to me) on my PlayOnlinux-powered Steam for Windows. So, I made the choice, and still don't regret it.

Not to be too harsh to OMGUbuntu, but I see it more as a site for closet Mac users who use words like "apps" instead of "programs/software", are really keen on buying a £400 Ubuntu Phone (or just pay ridiculous amounts for hardware in general) and change their icon themes every 2 days so it looks more like OSX. Get the impression that there's a breed of "ultra-hipsters" out there who see Apple as too "mainstream" and choose Ubuntu as a lifestyle statement rather than a functional OS.

What really put me off the site though is this mac-like cultish devotion to the distribution. When Cannonical were making terrible decisions left, right and centre, the readership were hailing them as the greatest decision ever (mostly because they like corporate gimmicks like "convergence" because like I said, closet Mac users) like in the Steve Jobs days when followers would hysterically cry over the release of a new cable. Obviously doesn't apply to everyone, probably just the more vocal people.

Looking at the figures for the GOL poll, I can already say that those stats are WAY different. It's a shame though that GOL doesn't have the readership to pull off 7,000 responses (the poll is currently at around 10% of that) considering this is a much better site in almost every respect.

I dual boot. There are a couple things I need to have Windows for, though I rarely use it and every game I'm playing at the moment runs perfectly fine in Wine or natively.

I might drop it the next time I redo my system, which will be either when I upgrade my motherboard and CPU (they both really need it) or they all of a sudden make 1TB SSD's at a reasonable price.

Out of curiosity, what CPU do you have? I’d like to upgrade my first gen Core i3, but really it’s still enough for a lot of things… Only a few games (*AHEM* witcher 2 *COUGH*) seem like they may be CPU-limited. That, and video encoding / compiling C++, of course.

I have an i5-2500k but with Broadwell coming out this year it'll be 3 generations behind. But it helps that I have 16GB of RAM and 4GB VRAM from my GTX 770.

By the way I run Witcher 2 on Ultra (without Ubersampling) at around steady 60fps on both Windows and Linux.

I wouldn't call people who duel boot to Windows "cultists". It's pure pragmatism (ie, the opposite).

And Ubuntu is the most popular distro, it's also the target distro for Linux builds. Again, it's pretty straight-forward if you "just want to play games". Go with the two OSs that are mostly likely to work (or more importantly, are supported).

Why diss people for choosing Ubuntu? Punch up, not down/sideways.

Not dissing dual-booters or Ubuntu users (I use Xubuntu and Kubuntu myself), I was referring to OMG Ubuntu, its content and readership.
