The logic puzzle game has been available DRM free from Desura since this summer. It was released on Steam yesterday and it's looking great.

I've played the demo on Desura, where the game is available both DRM free and with an included Steam key. The first chapter of the demo does a good job of introducing the puzzle and control mechanics, but it soon gets harder, and by the time you reach chapter 2, you're in for a challenge.

The core concept of the game revolves around directing a series of colored laser beams from emitters to the appropriate receivers. You do so by placing various mirrors on a grid, and these come in different flavors. Regular mirrors will just change the angle of a beam by 90 degrees, while splitters will do both that and let the beam through. There's also mixers, which can receive two beams on opposite sides and will output a mixed color perpendicular to both. To pass a level you have to feed each receiver with the correct color.

Where the game gets really interesting is in multi-stepped levels, where you have to feed receivers a color at certain steps, but where doing so on others will result in failure. The emitters will also pulsate correspondingly, and you can flip through each step at leisure while solving puzzles, so the challenge is not in quick observation but rather systematic thinking.

It does remind me quite a bit of Micron, which was also released this summer. Unlike Micron, in this game there's no limit to how many gadgets you can place on the grid, making several solutions possible for most of the puzzles. Prelogate also introduces many other mechanics that make it stand out on its own, and I feel like it's worth playing even if you have played Micron.

It's pretty good. I have owned it on desura for a long time but never played it until they gave out steam keys for it today.
The leader board system makes you want to keep trying the puzzles again to see if you can solve it using less components than they have.
