Minecraft: Story Mode is a brand new adventure being created around Minecraft, but sadly Linux has been left out in the cold it seems.
Minecraft: Story mode will be a narrative-driven video game created by Telltale Games. It will be about Minecraft. Telltale have made some pretty highly rated games, so for general gamers this will probably be exciting news.
The Mojang press release used the annoying "PC" term when talking about platforms:
QuoteThe first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.
While I got tired of the "PC != Windows" argument some time ago; it's still silly to be used like this.
And the press release from Telltale was even worse:
Quotestand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.
"Computers", what does that mean then?
We have shot off emails, and multiple tweets in the hope of getting a solid answer, but considering it's Telltale who have no history of Linux support we culd be left high and dry on this one. We hope this isn't the case though
We will update you if anyone actually responds to us.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: km3kQuoting: Bumadarsorry but what made you think telltale would release this on linux, because its an adventure about a game that is available on linux ? telltale has never release their games on linux.I have to agree. I'm surprised this was covered here. Telltale has never had any interest in Linux. I've been following their games since they released Bone (though not as closely in recent years as I've lost interest in the licenses they make games for).
That said, they have been newly supporting Android recently, so there's always the possibility they change their mind, but I really doubt it.

They'll probably make sure it doesn't happen, like they did with Netflix and MechWarrior Online, and, and, and...
They dropped Netflix limitations because of all the mobile devices that required it and it's on a field where they already lost the battle, anyway...
Else, M$ doesn't like fair competition...
Also don't Mac, PS4, iOS and Android count as competitors? Heck this doesn't look to be coming to Microsofts own mobile platform at all... it seems it will be exclusively available on competeting platforms!
Back then, I found some interresting discussions threads with some members of the Netflix support staff who told directly that there was no Linux/MAC support because of M$.

Neflix on PS4 and MAC? Until recently it was impossible. Android and IOS are competitors in the market of the mobile device where M$ has a ±3% marketshare... They are not in a Monopolistic position to oppose anybody and if Netflix wants to take it's share of this new market, they had no choice but to drop the limitations. We just benefited from that.
I was talking about the game this news post is about, specifically the following facts about it:
1. It is coming to Mac.
2. It is coming to "Playstation consoles".
3. It is coming to iOS.
4. It is coming to Android.
5. It is NOT coming to Windows for smartphones/tablets.
If MS wanted an exclusive for itself it would not allow those 5 things to happen.

That was nearly a year ago. Besides that quote, thehy haven't seem to show any interest in Linux. You would think we would have gotten Tales from the Borderlands, but nope. :(

I get your point but it's not about making a Windows exclusive more than having to do with the following celeb quote and all the minding that comes with it:
"Linux is a cancer"
-Steve Ballmer.
If you still have faith in M$, it's all up to you, but I don't. Do I need to say more?

It's not comming to linux, telltalegames haven't done anything that support linux.
Also "The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices." implies that there isn't any plans to support linux (PC and Mac separated).

I wish they will outsource it, because they doesnt seems to be interested, even ryan gordon says (in a reddit ama) than he was ok about doing the TWD port for free (because he is a fan).

Well, this wasn't unexpected. However, it's fortunate that there are other creative building games with similar gaming experience such as the free, libre and open source http://minetest.net/ which is entirely cross-platform and very extendable.

Minecraft still has its Linux version and AFAIK it is still being updated along with the Windows and Mac versions.
This thread is not about, but about a new storybased game set the Minecraft universe.
Games like Minetest are neither and so can't function as a replacement of this game.

Actually, PC and Mac is 2 difrent hardware while Windows and Linux is 2 difrent os, still most game makers i have seen are idiots and think pc=windows, in reality pc should mean that it should work on any OS that runs on a pc computer, but like i said most game makers (and computer software makers in general) fails to understand that.
