Caravan is the upcoming game from developer it Matters Games, and is a trade and exploration game combining strategy, RPG and roguelike elements. The game will be published by Daedalic Entertainment and will be released later this year.
Developer it Matters Games is a company specializing in mobile games, but according to their website they have experience from the AAA industry, and it will be interesting to see what they come up with. Daedalic have established themselves as a symbol of quality, and one must assume that they like what they've seen of the upcoming game.
The announcement on Daedalic's website offers a short description of the game:
This does remind me slightly of the classics Sid Meyer's Pirates! and Patrician, though both of those have a naval setting.
According to the announcement, the game will be released in November this year. The game was also announced on Facebook, which is where I found the image at the top of this article. It appears to be the only available image relating to the game so far.
Daedalic will also have two other games out this week: The Kickstarter funded point-and-click adventure Dead Synchronicity by Fictiorama Studios and their own puzzle adventure FIRE. Expect us to take a closer look at both.

QuoteCaravan combines strategy, RPG and roguelike elements in an exciting trading and exploration game. Set in the pre-Middle Ages Orient, players sent their caravans from town to town. Along their trade-routes dangerous adventures, new contracts and battles await.
World and setting are based on geography and history of the Orient. Players travel the regions of the Arabian Peninsula and there is a steady flow of new crew, heroes and camels on their journeys: the players' caravan keeps growing. Managing your caravan means managing your resources, like water, provisions and also your animals. Players also have to take care of finding business opportunities, buying resources and raw materials while still cutting a good deal by selling these goods somewhere else.
Spiced up with mystic elements of regional folklore and the famous One Thousand and One Nights, random encounters and many authentic backgrounds, Caravan provides players with a well-balanced genre mix and an individual story that changes with every decision made.

This sounds really promising and really awesome!
^^This is why :). Love these kinds of games.
Also, I really wish Daedallic would hurry up and port a few more of their adventure games over. Still haven't played A New Beginning, Night of the Rabbit or the second half of Whispered World and can't be bothered to play them through Wine.

Yeah, those games are great. I must have spent hundreds—if not thousands—of hours on Patrician on my old Amiga.
Me too. I've played through Whispered World and the Deponia trilogy, but I'd love to see more of their games make their way to Linux soon. There are some known issues with text display in Visionaire Studio, but I don't know if that's what causing the hold-up, and if so, why that wasn't an issue with the Deponia games.

The description reminds me of Oregon Trail more than anything.

I run the Hidden Linux Gems group on Steam, where we highlight good indie games for Linux that we feel deserve more attention.
