Tripwire have announced that Killing Floor 2 will be released on the 21st of April into Early Access, but we have it confirmed Linux is not in the initial release.

I'm pretty sad about this, as I was hoping it would give me my Zombie fix once I finish Dying Light. It's not all doom and gloom though, as we should still get it in a reasonable time frame given their wording.

Confirmation:

@gamingonlinux Unlikely at launch. We hope to add it as soon as possible.

About Killing Floor 2
Killing Floor 2 will be the successor to the ridiculously fun and successful original title, that was released in 2009. All your old favourites will be back, with a whole host of new features, characters, monsters, weapons and story in due course. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Still means the game could come out for Linux in time for its official release, though, correct?

Killing floor 2 does look awesome. I am looking forward to it.
But I am unsure why the first game is regarded so highly by many. I have barely played it as left4dead2 just seems sooo much better in pretty much every way. Is there something I am missing???

This is really sad! They never learn! If the game can't have a same day launch on both platforms they are probably rushing it (which is bad), damn it! They lost an instant-buy... would buy a 4-pack =(

Anyway, I'm having a good time playing 7 Days to Die (bought only when they released the linux port), anyone wants to join me? I own a dedicated server, just look for "Seventy Shades of Death" on the modded tab :)

They most probably don't give a damn, just like their port for the first game.

Well, that's the puzzling thing, they do care about Linux/SteamOS and have said it all over the place.
I was definitely expecting to be a simultaneous release given their radical stance regarding developing games for Windows and high confidence in SteamOS.

This is about early access, right? The actual release might still be simultaneous.

OT: Personally I don't get why people are so eager to play unfinished games. No early access for me, ever.

I played way more Killing Floor than L4D2. I think the advantage of KF lies in that you can play without your friends and still have a lot of fun, whereas L4D2 really shines in multiplayer only when you have your friends around, or prepare for a lot of frustration. I also find the shooting a lot tighter and much more enjoyable in KF.

I'd also like to add that Valve's level design is an art in and of itself, but Killing Floor's levels are also genius in how they're laid out and how they let you have a breather and ramp up and ramp down the action (the respawn times are not fixed for each round).

I love both games, but I'd easily play KF over L4D2, which I don't have much of an incentive to click on these days unless my buddies are playing it.

I just hope KF2 isn't hopelessly broken under NVIDIA. :( Well, I'll still play it, just like I've played almost 40 hours of KF1, but I'd like a good port this time. :D

It's a pretty sad state of affairs when the term "release" is being used for Early Access.

It's awesome!

Let Windows users test first public builds. They will find and report all bugs and native GNU/Linux version will be absolutely bug-free. It's a good practice to allow Windows users to find all the bugs before GNU/Linux release. They are used to bugs and like them
