The day has arrived, not only do we have a new DLC for Dying Light, but the Linux performance patch I previewed for you has also been released! To quote a film I saw recently “what a lovely day!”.
The new DLC is “Dying Light: The Bozak Horde” which is something we also posted about recently, but now it’s actually here and has day-1 Linux support.
I’ve been pleased by Techland’s progress, and their communication is getting slightly better. Dying Light didn't have the best release, but unlike some developers they have actually kept pushing at it!
I did a review of Dying Light on Linux, and I still stand by it. The gameplay is great, but the ending was terrible.
Patch 1.0.6 changelog below, but weirdly it doesn't mention performance fixes for Linux. I tested it to double check and the Linux performance fixes are in there, and the AA setting has returned! I've poked my Techland contact to get the patch notes sorted properly, odd that we aren't even mentioned when it's a huge change for us.
Update: They added the Linux notes in after I emailed them.
The developer mentioned to me that AMD's Linux GPU drivers aren't great for Dying Light on Linux, but they will continue to look for optimizations they can do themselves.

About Dying Light + DLC (Official)
The Bozak Horde
It’s time for you to go on the offensive! Enter the Stadium, the most famous landmark in Harran, and delve straight into the carnage. Go alone or join forces with other survivors to test your combat know-how against relentless hordes of the Infected. Unlock new skills and become the champion of Harran’s stadium.
Dying Light
Dying Light is a first-person, action survival game set in a vast open world. Roam a city devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help defeat the hordes of flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created. At night, beware the Infected as they grow in strength and even more lethal nocturnal predators leave their nests to feed on their prey.
Check out Dying Light on Steam, and The Bozak Horde.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
As I said before, the lip sync is buggy again. It was ok before the patch, now none of the NPC move the lips while talking. This plus the shadow flickering are the most annoying bugs at moment (besides performance) what a pity =/

Quoting: GuestQuoting: michaHm, patch seems good but for some reason resolution is now fixed. that means while performance in 1080p is probably improved it' still unplayable and new I cannot switch to 720p anymore :-(You cannot change the resolution while in game, but if you exit to the menu it should work…
any ideas?
As for my experience with this new patch, there was a small framerate improvement (something like 55 -> 65 FPS in front of the tower) but since playing at low framerate (< 45 FPS) is not something I enjoy, I still need to keep most/all video settings to the minimum. And it’s still fucking blurry, maybe even worse than before. And yes, the shadows are flickering. Disappointing.
Core i5 4690K, GTX 660.
thx a lot! I didn't realize there's a difference before =)

Yep, the game doesn't start for me anymore, just hangs at the black loading screen. I verified the game files, I even reinstalled the entire game. I guess I'll poke Techland and cry in the corner ;-;

Hopefully Techland isn't done and that they are still working on patches.

For those with shadow problems on Nvidia cards, I had this issue before and it seems to have gone when I updated my driver to a later version.

It's a pity that my HW is weak for this game :(
I was looking forward to this game

To be fair though, your hardware was never meant to be played on, ever. It's like buying a mini (which does have some benefits) and then wanting to compete with a Porsche in a street racing without limits ;)

I was looking forward to this but I'm not going anywhere near it until these issues are sorted out.
I never thought I'd be in the situation where I have so many great games backed up that I could be picky on Linux... actually "picky" is the wrong word, this (any) game shouldn't have been released in a broken state, period.

Game used to work but after the patch the game just stop on the black loading screen. Latest Stable Nvidia driver on Fedora 21. Now need to wait for another patch to fix it.

For those willing to get some performance back and get rid of some of those pesky effects I would recommend to use the Dying Light Manager: http://www.nexusmods.com/dyinglight/mods/18/?
Be sure to use a 64-bit wineprefix and remember that the manager wasn't updated for a while, so some settings might not work after recent DL updates.
I'm not sure anymore about chromatic aberration fix, but at least it can still remove the motion blur effects (see video).
The app will create a "DyingLight" folder in your "/home/user".
Copy the "/home/user/DyingLight/out/data" folder to
".../steamapps/common/Dying Light/DW/out" folder.
Before and After:

Or try mine: out.zip
