Fallout 4 And Steam Machine Release Dates A Coincidence? Yes, Probably.

The only reason i can think of is that a third player like microsoft + the competence have put a shit-ton of money on bethesda's table in order to damage the competence. Old habits die hard and i think ms still pull off these kind of movements to get deals daily. Some people even think they are legit movements for an enterprise...

Maybe I am pessimist by nature (well, I suffer from depression now and then) but overall after seeing Bethesda yesterday during XBO show it felt almost likely scenario.

Also add fact that Bethesda seems to be more and more interested in green (I personally believe that pay for mods was driven by them) and launching their own DRM client...definitely no Fallout 4 for Linux in foreseeable future, and most likely it is a planted strategy move to tarnish Steam Machines image (you don't run coolest stuff, you suck).

I do know about steam ideas... i certainly dont know much about bethesda. Steam side was really interested in doing the paid mods as well. As in "this is going to foster better mods and its awesome... oh, and by the way, we get a cut".

We can ask ourselves... does bethesda have any incentive to want an open platform instead of windows? has ms threaten bethesda recently? I would guess that recently ms sugarcoated its platform to bethesda like a lot if they ever scared them with its own store like it happened with steam..

Another idea pointing on the same direction is that bethesda have little reason to change platform when you are already the dominant player on yours. You dont want to foster innovation or other players to thrive... Its already hard enough to believe that valve want this on the first place (i mean, i only believe it because it the ms' threat of the store competence is real)

And the third idea i can come up pointing in the same direction as well is that i think bethesda is the only big name that didnt join the vulkan api affort.

It could be a secret project from Aspyr Media, Feral Interactive or other well known game porters. We haven't heard anything on it though.

I don't know, but this is the last big gaming event before the release of Steam Machines. So if there is anything important to announce about Steam Machines this is the chance.

Doing a quick Google search, it seems that Valve won't be going to E3.

I think it's a coincidence too, but... Bethesda is releasing their own DRM client, which probably isn't going to give them a whole lot of goodwill initially. Valve will probably want to allow content providers on SteamOS, like Netflix and HBO, to appeal to the console market. It doesn't seem completely absurd to me that Bethesda's client might be pre-installed on the official Steam Machines, since it could benefit both companies. Unlikely, yes, but highly unlikely...? Maybe not.

All the best AAA games are coming to linux, because SteamOS is linux.

Valve is the biggest, most influential player in PC gaming, I have every confidence they will do whatever they need to do to ensure SteamOS is successful. One of those necessary things is having the best AAA games available for your platform. Gabe Newell is smarter than you, smarter than me, he knows what must be done. Have no fear, Fallout 4 is coming to linux, so is GTA V, mark my words. Look at how many AAA titles have been ported to linux already and this is before the new platform has even been launched. Valve has some BIG pull to get all these ports in motion before release, just wait till a year, two years after launch, no new AAA title will come without support for SteamOS, I'd wager my gaming rig on it.

Don't get your hopes up. We got a LOT of truly awesome games lately, but they are almost exclusively coming from smaller and medium sized developers. The heavy weights have shown almost zero interest in Linux support so far. EA, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Rockstar and Bethesda seem to be perfectly happy with Windows and the consoles at least. Their announcement of tying their games to yet another stupid DRM platform probably doesn't help, because not only would they have to port the game, but the stupid DRM platform on top of it.
Would I love to see FO4 on Linux happen? Hell, yes. Do I believe it will happen? Not until the moment they officially announce it.

i'm hoping for doom more than for Fallout 4, fallout looks great, but man if doom doesn't come to linux i'm going to need windows again

to add a note about bethesda, id software stopped releasing linux binaries once they got bought by bethesda, just saying

I'd really like to think positive about this, I'm a rather positive person. But I do know games and game systems and the like are released on Tuesdays a huge majority of the time. the 10th happens to be a Tuesday... So it's most likely just coincidence. I will hope for the best but expect the worst. We'll have to wait and see how the Steam Machines fair in the coming year.
