OlliOlli2 introduces a gnarly new local multiplayer mode – Combo Rush, a split-screen four-player party mode with four unique game modes.

Once again, the crate diggers at Roll7 have scoured the airwaves for a shimmering extended soundtrack, including, Cid Rim, Lone, Faulty DL, Submerse and Mike Slott.

Initial thoughts
I've tested a bit of it, and while there are some input issues going on right now, the basic game is actually pretty cool. The graphical style is pretty simplistic, but I actually find the visuals quite nice and not too distracting, considering you really have to pay attention to land your tricks correctly.

The one thing I don't like, is not being able to repeat the instructions for pulling off tricks at the start. The tutorial levels should really repeat the instructions on restart, and not force you to go back to the main menu, and into the level again. I found that to be annoying, luckily there's very few tutorial levels before it throws you into it.

Issues
It seems the gamepad support is a little iffy. It picks up that my gamepad is there, but the keys don't respond, bit annoying as this is very much a type of game that's great with a gamepad.

When I relaunched without my gamepad, it gave me a warning that it's meant for gamepads, and the main menu seemed to be stuck on the play button, but after a while it seemed to respond and let me play. It seems the input system on Linux is a bit iffy.

Each time I go to a menu, it seems the input issues come back again. It's making it really frustrating to play. This is to the point of having to force-quit it every time, and then it crashes, so I have to kill it manually.

I imagine there's an issue with FPS or frame timings, as I've seen others talk about it on the Steam forums with landing things properly being sometimes impossible. I've repeatedly tried to land the "perfect grind" and no matter how close I'm getting to railings, it seems to never be perfect.

Will be interesting to see if others can confirm any of those input issues? Not the smoothest of releases, but not the worst I guess.

I will be interested in playing it a lot more when the input works properly.

You can grab it DRM free right now on GOG, or on Steam. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Out of curiosity, have you played the first Olli Olli? I guess the gameplay is quite similar, it's maybe even the same engine. So I'm wondering if there are regressions in the sequel and if you had the same issues with the first game.

There was an update to version 1.0.0.2 pushed for OlliOlli 2, perhaps it fixed the game up some? :)

I ask this because I cannot find a changelog ANYWHERE for the game :/
