The brand new Linux-native RuneScape client "NXT" can now be downloaded to have it ready for the big release on the 18th. It does have issues though.

First thing, as noted on reddit, they tell you to download the repository keys for Ubuntu insecurely (they only officially offer an Ubuntu download).

They also depend on "libglew1.10", but newer distributions like Ubuntu 16.04 which is about to become the main LTS release don't have that older version in the repository.

Hopefully they will quickly sort these issues out. I am looking forward to seeing how the new client is, and finding out if RuneScape is actually any good.

I have tweeted and emailed the issues to them. I can't seem to post in their forum for some reason, so hopefully they pick up my messages. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

you can download the libglew 1.10 deb manually and install it. it doesn't remove 1.13 and has no conflicts that I can tell.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glew/1.10.0-3

there is a .deb download link someone left on the reddit post. which I used instead of using the unsecure repo.

this client is available in the AUR for Arch users.

I tried to log in, but when i try to type in the login or the password field I get no response from any sort of input from my keyboard.

Lolololol seriously?
Why most F2P games tend to screw the QoL instead of looking for creative ways of earning money?

Nonetheless, it amazes me how Jagex has managed to continously evolve Runescape to keep up with the times.

I started playing today (with the old client) using runescape-launcher, and I'm so far impressed. It's certainly feature rich and fun.

I am afraid not. Runescape -is- the closest thing to a mainstream MMO Linux has available, but this just shows how desperately Linux needs more MMOs. It's not anywhere near being a major title, even with the most generous of imaginations.

I wish I had a dollar for every time the tech industry has used some variant of the word "next".

On Manjaro(based on Arch) it works, directly from the AUR. No changes made.
Greetings.

I bet they will provide the missing library in the repository once 16.04 LTS is released.
