The Culling is the rather good looking battle royale survival game we mentioned only recently and it's now available on SteamOS & Linux.

I will be taking a look at it properly when I have a bit more free time, it's much more my type of game when compared with games like Rust and ARK. It's much more action focused and it does look pretty good.

Find the release notes here.

About the game
As a contestant in the deadly game of The Culling, you must explore, scavenge items, craft weapons, and build traps that will enable you to slay your fellow contestants and emerge victorious before the end of the round. Only with cunning, skill, and a little luck will you be able to prevail and survive the match.

Unlike add-on modes in open-world survival games, The Culling redefines the battle royale genre by providing a tightly focused stand-alone experience that delivers incredible thrills and endless story-worthy moments.

What makes it compelling to me is that there is actually a goal in the game. You can lose or win in finite amount of time. As opposed to the likes of Rust where you only delay your inevitable death by a little bit.

That's also one of the major hooks for me too.

I'm tampered but it's early access... Many early access games have not the most experienced devs and let's not start about experience with Linux support. Hope you guys will make a port report or something like that.

I have requested a key from my PR people who they work with, but I don't know if they are awake right now (timezones).

I'm liking it so far. Its been the only game to pull my attention away from 0 A.D and Natural Selection 2 for a bit. It also performs really well for me on max settings (Nvidia GTX 980 TI) which is a bonus.

I was really hoping this game would come to Linux! I'm glad it has, however I'm not too into Early Accesss games, so I'll continue waiting.

I think the premise has promise, but the execution is a little too arcade for my liking. Creeping through the undergrowth, ambushing and generally being a sneaky bastard would make for a fun time - however this looks to be more like The Running Man than Battle Royale.
