After a few accidents leaking out before it was due, Feral have today officially (and finally) properly confirmed F1 2015 is coming to Linux.

Looks like Mac is missing from the announcements, wonder what happened there then!

Requirements

It looks like it will be Nvidia only, as the system requirements only mention Nvidia. You will need a 1GB NVIDIA 640 with the 364.19 driver at a minimum.

Very exciting, our first proper F1 game will be on Linux May 26th. I will be ignoring all the reviews and taking it as I see it, as the reviews aren't amazing.

Looks like it was this previous clue which has now vanished.

So, a DX11 game means OpenGL4.3 Linux right? OSS AMD drivers will not work with this for a few months. Grid Autostport plays very nice today with the OSS driver, but not at launch. so I must buy this in a couple of months or so.

Mesa has had more or less full 4.3 support for radeonsi for a bit over a month now. But the DX11/OpenGL equivalence depends on what extensions the particular game uses. Some games like Bioshock infinite needed 4.1 but things like Alien Isolation need 4.3 while mordor needs 4.4 or 4.5 iirc. Feral is pretty good about Mesa support and TR, which was also based of DX11, worked just fine for me with mesa git at launch.

Absolutely "must have" to me! This game will be welcome to my library. I enjoyed a lot GRID Autosport, but F1 series are the best racing games to me.

Shadow of Mordor needs 4.3. I managed to run its benchmark some time ago using radeonsi without any graphical artifacts (besides low performance).

I expect to run all those games with good performance by the end of the year, if the OSS drivers continue to develop at the actual pace.

Well this is interesting; it looks like the MAC version was canned due to complications with the OS. Such things are making Linux look like a nicely maturing gaming OS indeed!

Yeah Mac only supports OpenGL4.1 and Metal, Apple refuses to put any effort into support above that on their platform so I'm not surprised. They won't even support Vulkan. Basically its the beginning of the end for gaming on Apple systems except for when Apple directly pay developers to release stuff that is.

Seems to be than mac game devs will have to start using metal before than expected. I have also heard than they arent fixing opengl bugs than has been appearing on newer releases of os x. Since metal is easier to use than vulkan I wouldnt be surprised if it starts being used soon, but they probably have to create an "indirect" (togl-like) alternative first
