Zombie apocalypse be damned, Project Zomboid [Steam, GOG, Official Site] has a new major stable version available and it's quite a massive update.
The game is still in Early Access, as they are working on more major upgrades for future versions.
New stuff
* Visit the new towns of Rosewood and March Point[projectzomboid.com], the farmland in-between and the vast Rosewood prison complex.
* New buildings include court house, fire station, shopping areas, new police station, community centre, residential areas and military apartment buildings.
* New profession-based player spawn locations in and around the town of Rosewood
* New map tiles, furniture, decoration and building styles
* Location-based VOIP, so you only hear people near you
* Metalwork crafting, profession and skills
* A "Factions" system for the multiplayer
* And loads more, see here
Easily one of the top survival games available on Linux and amazing progress.
It's probable you will see a livestream of myself and Samsai attempting to survive soon, as we haven't shown it off for a while.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Damn, I bought this game in Desura like a thousand years ago, before it went to Steam. I remember the main dev's house got robbed or something and they didn't have backups; they lost months worth of work. The first impulse they have was to drop the game and I got angry as fuck. I'm glad that at the end they kept going, it looks pretty sweet now.

Same here. It doesn't seem to be so developped since then, actually.

They learnt their lessons, they have backups and more developers now and the game has never been better. Their development pace is far quicker than it was back then too.
The game has come along so damn nicely :D

I've been leaning towards getting this game. I think it's the top game on my wishlist now. At least until Civ VI is (hopefully!) available.

Had no idea about the robbery thing, but now that I do, I want to thank these people for soldiering on. I love this game and I salute the devs for keeping it going even after such a tremendous setback.

Oh, I got it. :) I haven't messed with it yet, though. I saw there's something I have to do with java to get it running or something? I haven't dug into it yet. I've just been busy with some other stuff.
Edit: Oh yeah, JoeyBoots80, huh? That reminds me of Joe Pantaliano (sp?). He said once that growing up, he was referred to as Joey Pants.

lol yeah it was my nickname for some people growing up as I always wore boots instead of tennis shoes like my friends did. I was a punk rocker basically. My real name is Joe Crook, and some people also simply called me "Crook" because of that as well. And yes PZ does require java. Cheers friend!

I got it running. I saw you added me on Steam. Cool. Maybe we'll do some multiplayer sometime when I have more time to put into it. I did get it running. It ran out of the box. It was Fedora where I had an issue running it. I'm back on Linux Mint again now.
Well, hopefully see you in a game sometime.
