It seems that the experimental Linux version of Arma 3 [Steam] is going to get the 64bit version in a coming update.

The Windows version gained 64bit support only recently in December in the development branch, so it's pleasing to see this being worked on for the Linux port. Originally, Bohemia stated the Linux version might not get 64bit.

I was pointed to SteamDB (thanks Ysblokje) where there's now a content depot for "Linux/Mac 1.68 64-bit".

This is awesome news, since I can't currently play the game due to the game being 32bit. Essentially, the game won't allow me to use all the RAM and VRAM I have, which won't be a problem when it's 64bit. The game always drops me down to Low quality textures and VP claim this is due to how OpenGL works + a 32bit game.

Respect to Virtual Programming for doing it, no word on when it will release but it sure looks like we will get the 64bit engine update! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Looks like they're really dedicated to their "experiment"!

Do people think it is worth getting Arma 3 which is available quite cheaply in the current Humble Bundle. It isn't quite my type of game (I prefer DOOM style much more). If I got it, would I be able to use it to play DayZ on Linux (probably not, but thought I'd ask)? Also, it isn't really supporting Linux gaming if I buy it "for Windows" is it.

It does in that Bohemia and Virtual Programming will know that you bought and installed it Linux, which boosts our numbers and makes them more likely to continue supporting Linux.

yay, we might get on par with the windows version !

No you wont be able to play Dayz Standalone, but you might try some Dayz like mods for Arma 3. Exile mod (with other mods) and Epoch mod are aiming to deliver some zombie apocalypse.

I really need to find time to play this. I've had Arma 3 since before it had a campaign... then the release of everything came and went and the most I've done is played part of the demo. Absolutely loved Operation Flashpoint back in the day.

I think I'll buy the humble bundle, even though I already own all of them.

Miracle, ironically if they switched their engine to Vulkan then they could spin a very effective linux port themselves rather then doing this slow outsourcing work thing which sees the Linux users unable to enjoy mods or multiplayer due to version mismatches!

Tried to get the bundle, ran into bad luck:

You make it sound so easy.

They should have done it from the very beginning as most studios/publishers. If they could benefit at least a little bit they might consider cross platform developing for future games.

Don't get me wrong but VP is looking so noob and i think they can't manage this game. One of the longest ports ever.

If it is released some day,we will see Arma 4 is already out and this port is really bad and pushing away Linux people.

Arma 3 linux/mac port is already released, they are just porting next version as Arma 3 development still continues. Version 1.68 isnt complete yet even for windows, so the 1.68 linux/mac port cannot be complete either.

You're talking about accessing that by buying Windows version and doing some steps to access experimental port.

That is not a finished port, even they not finished the launcher.

The only step you need to do is click Install in steam, you have to do this for all the games you want to play on steam.

I think you're the one that needs to reread that ;)
It says NO steam branches, you can only use the default one. You don't have to change anything to download the linux version (quite the contrary: if you change the steam branch you won't download the linux version).
Also they do keep track of linux users (otherwise they wouldn't be able to check whether their 'experiment' is successful or not).

No,you're not reading.

1-)It counts as a Windows sale

2-)They have feedback pages; they're not feedbacking through the game itself. Actually,i ve never heard a nonsense like that

3-)True,i misunderstood that. You need to press download and play.
