Aspyr Media today rolled out the Spring Update for Sid Meier's Civilization VI [Steam] for Linux gamers, but sadly cross-platform multiplayer still isn't ready. They did previously confirm to me directly that it would be in, but it's just not ready.

QuoteUPDATE 4/20/17 - We are finally live with the Spring update!
Important note about cross platform multiplayer: While it was our sincere goal to have cross-platform play between Windows and Mac/Linux in this update, we were unable to meet that goal due to some immersion-breaking bugs that occur specifically with cross-platform play. Quality is simply too important to Aspyr and our partners so we elected to release this update while we continue to work on these remaining issues. Linux and Mac can still play with each other.

As long as they're still working on it, and good on them for the transparency! Looking forward to playing the new update.

Thankyou for that info. I like CIV VI on linux. I think this is the correct decision from the developers/porters. But I'am a bit sad too.
Hopefully the compatibility will land for one of the next patches. At least in this year.
Although this game is fun. Maybe you and samsai will nuke the enemys in your next game. with the new Team funktionality. :-)

Cross platform multiplayer is my most wanted feature. I really love Civ 6, so do my (Windows) friends. Although it is the right decision, I hope it is ready soon.
Thank you Aspyr for your efforts and keep up the awesome work!

Some "immersion-breaking" bugs? That's an interesting wordage. I'm curious what that means. Do Linux players get tanks two thousand years early, or something? :)

It doesn't look like there are any Linux specific fixes in the patch. I was hoping for some performance improvements.

I know what the solution is: make all your friends get on Linux! Sorry for the cynicism... it's just depressing sometimes.
A ray of light is my dad plans to abandon Windows once 7 loses all support in 2020. That's also when I'll stop dual booting into Windows every 30-40 days when friends want to play an exclusive game.
I was delighted when I hooked up a tower to my TV and my step-daughter saw it and asked, "Is that Linux?" in a tone that was sort of surprised in a good way. It was Elementary OS.

Quoting: GuestWe need more performance, i'm not playing the game because of this.Really..? I can't see, why you actually need to have high fps in a board game like Civilization. Certainly, on low-end hardware, the game is stuttering. However, you don't need a high-end rig to play it properly. I do my "good-night Civ 6 sessions" with playable performance on a i5-4200U + 730M notebook (with integrated GPU it's pretty unplayable though).

Eh, that's ok. I can live with companies that give their best to make something happen and discover while implementing it, that it was more complicated than they thought. It's not like the garbage some other moron studios pulled on us when they decided they'd rather work on some irrelevant Windows-related updates and not the Linux port they promised when they collected all the Kickstarter money from us.

Quoting: ryadIt's not unplayable, and it's still a fantastic game (I rate it as one of the best Civ games ever made). It's just that it would be nice to see it running at 60FPS rather than 20FPS late-game. Even though it's turn-based, nice, smooth graphics would enhance the feel.Quoting: GuestWe need more performance, i'm not playing the game because of this.Really..? I even didn't expect there to be cross platform multiplayer - this means I will buy CivVI ASAP as it was major hurdle for me. Thanks for bringing this on spotlight!
